I kind of agree, I have seen many shows this season. The only one I have even remotely enjoyed and can recommend is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. Yes, I am excited about some of the new stuff coming (no Fun Home is not on my list of must sees. Saw it at The Public. Didn't care for it at all.) but so far this season is a huge yawn.

Posted: 2/7/15 at 11:17pmA season that has produced a powerful and important new American play like "Disgraced"; a first-rate British import in "Curious Incident" and a wonderful, exhilarating revival of a classic American comedy "You Can't Take It With You" can hardly be termed "awful" or "crap"

To those viciously attacking the OP:
We are 2/3 of the way through the season, and every musical that has opened has either failed (Holler, Last Ship, Honeymoon, Side Show) or performed underwhelmingly (On the Town). Plays have fared far better (Curious Incident, River, Elephant Man, Delicate Balance, Constellations, You Can't Take It With You, Disgraced, It's Only a Play) but there have been some flops as well (Love Letters, Country House, This Is Our Youth, and to a lesser extent, The Real Thing). Really, the only new works that have succeeded are the River and Constellations. When 100% of the musicals fail, a third of the plays fail, and only two original pieces succeed (and that success stems, in part, because there are movie stars at the helm) calling the season awful or a failure is not that extreme a sentiment.

Eh. I thought 2012-2013 was worse. I'm not a big fan of plays but if people are enjoying them, that's fantastic. I'm glad I finally got to see Side Show though I still think it's a flawed show and that's ultimately the reason it closed so soon again.
I went into the midseason TV season not terribly enthusiastic and came back with Fresh Off The Boat, Empire, and Backstrom. I have hope for An American in Paris, Doctor Zhivago, Finding Neverland, Fun Home, and Something Rotten. They're not guaranteed successes but at least I find them more appealing that some of the recent movie to stage adaptations we've been getting.
The King and I and On the Twentieth Century seem like they'll be fun and I already have my tickets. I can't honestly say I'm that excited to maybe see On the Town or Gigi but if I do, who knows, they might surprise me.
Also, success is not a marker of quality. It's an indication of popularity.
