You definitely gave a "concise" review of HIGH FIDELITY.
However, I've talked to tons of people who saw it, thought it was hilarious, fun and extremely enjoyable. I happened to have a very enjoyable time and actually loved HF.
I wouldn't expect you to like it. No offense, but your profile indicates that some of your favorite shows are: Brigadoon, Finian's Rainbow, and CATS! (you can't tell me that CATS has a story.)
You seem to like traditional musical theatre. I can't see how you would like a modern, trendy, witty, rock scored musical.
Again, no offense, you have good taste in musicals, just different taste. There are many people out there who love HF, but probably not someone like you.

I like anything that is GOOD, regardless of it's sub-genre.
You can't tell me that TABOO, SPRING AWAKENING, RENT, HEDWIG, etc. are traditional musical theatre.
I enjoy anything if it's good...and I am not alone in thinking (and knowing) that HIGH FIDELITY is a hot mess. Wait until the reviews come out, and you'll see.

I shudder to think what the reviews will say. I had hopes for it, but most signs are pointing down.
Sorry I didn't get back to your last post yesterday. Work interfered (damn it). I thought I was merely answering your question when I said I wasn't calling you a liar. Sorry if it didn't come across that way.
I do enjoy your thorough reviews, which are a lot better than most on this board, with the one line "it sucked, don't waste your money".

Posted: 12/5/06 at 11:40amIf it helps, I thought that High Fidelity was an awful movie, so I don't think that seeing the movie will make the show any more likeable to you.

Why thank you, dear.
My personal favorite is the threads that say "_____ review"
Then the thread literally has one line about the show - something like "It wasn't amazing but it was really fun and the cast worked really hard."
Then the rest of the review is a minute by minute description of the stage door stalking. Personal fave.

Too true. My personal favorites are the "Official Review of _____________" from it's first preview night, in an out of town tryout period.
Which then go on to say...."I know it's only previews...but! This show sucked, don't waste your money, burn the theater, kill the actors, and move on!"

So what you are saying is that anything YOU think is good. Also, why should I wait for the reviews anyway? They always hate everything (they panned Wicked). Besides, I already saw HF and loved it. So did the audience, who seemed to enjoy it.
BTW, are you saying that TABOO was good?

I'm saying that I enjoyed TABOO and it's not traditional musical theatre.
WICKED didn't get panned. The reviews were decidedly mixed, with general positive notices for Chenoweth.
Critics don't always hate everything. The following is a list of recent shows that received mostly positive notices:
A CHORUS LINE
THE COAST OF UTOPIA: VOYAGE
COMPANY
GREY GARDENS
HEARTBREAK HOUSE
JAY JOHNSON: THE TWO AND ONLY
KIKI AND HERB: ALIVE ON BROADWAY
THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED
I don't see your point. This thread merely consists of my opinions on the said shows. I don't see the problem. I'm not telling you to agree with me.

Posted: 12/5/06 at 2:14pmLike it or not, the audiences aren't uniformly liking High Fidelity. Besides myself and others on this bored, the group behind me would not stop talking about how bad it was during intermission, and the buzz in the lobby afterward was tepid to say the least.

#63re: thoughts on THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED, HIGH FIDELITY, THE APPLE TREE, & TH
Posted: 12/6/06 at 1:49pmI think it was about 2 hours and 10 minutes.

The Bruce Springsteen bit is from the movie and, I would assume, possibly the novel as well.
I'm just sayin'.

Posted: 12/6/06 at 4:37pmAlso, I think it's important to realize that the Bruce Springsteen number is a tongue-in-cheek mockery of Springsteen, not a number that is attempting to draw in a certain crowd because a Springsteen replica is jumping around the stage. Same goes for a lot of the show's humor - it's very much the type of humor that you simply get or don't get, which is why I don't blame some for failing to find the show humorous. For example, the "Conflict Resolution" sequence is more of a parody than a scene revealing Rob's inner fantasies to the audience. A lot of the show's humor is found in tongue-in-cheek jokes poking fun at pop culture. Again, as I mentioned in my initial review of the show, it's a type of humor that certainly is not universal, and part of the reason I don't expect the show to do exceptionally well, despite the fact that I personally found it hilarious.
