I heard that they'd record it probably after the show closes. But that from someone here on the board. I hope it gets recorded. It's such an interesting show with a great cast. I can't wait.

Let's hope that it doesn't run into the contractual problems that Rocky Horror had.
Joan Jett's record label prohibited her from performing on the Rocky Horror revival album. Let's hope that the same doesn't happen to Cyndi Lauper.
"Joan Jett's record label prohibited her from performing on the Rocky Horror revival album."
That's not true. She refused to be on the album because she didn't like the production values.

Ahhh so thats why she isnt on the recording!
I wondered why it was Alice Ripley. Especially since I read the reviews and they all said Joan Jett was in the original cast. Still any reason to hear Alice on cd is fine by me.
She didn't play Janet. She played Columbia. And her understudy took over. Alice played Janet in the production.

Well if Cyndi wouldn't do it, which I doubt would happen, they may scip recording it because her name on the cover would be what would sell the cd.
I'm not quite sure why they would bother recording the show after it closed. Frankly, there isn't much of an audience for it.
I finally saw the show a few nights ago, and while I don't think it succeeds as Brecht - it is indeed entertaining. The translation, however is one of the production's weakest attributes, and given some of the strange casting choices (a male Lucy) I do think its entirely possible the Weill estate wouldn't be jumping up and down to preserve it and thereby encourage future similar productions.
That said, the production is well performed. It is certainly a better sung production of the show than most.
Just-John,
Just curious, did Mr. Cumming tell you that recently or was it a while back? I hope there weren't plans in the beginning that have since been scrapped.
This production has every reason to be recorded. I really hope it happens.

If Cyndi isn't on it, I won't be buying it. I only want a recording of the show for her opening and her "Solomon Song".

I saw the show Saturday night. Front row, center. Amazing show! Not sure I understood 100% of what was happening on stage. Anyway, when I bought my ticket Saturday morning, the man at the box office said it was not a definate, but they are seriously still considering a recording. Take that for what it's worth.
P.S.
The cast is truly dedicated and hard-working!!

I agree and despite any shortcomings in the translation, I think the above makes it fully worth recording.
Just John-
Thank you for the reply! =)
Anyway, still hoping for an announcement...

personally, i think that it's not one person but ALL of them that would make this cd so good. while cyndi lauper would help sell the cd because of her name and while she is really great in the show, alan comming, ana gastyr, jim dale, ALL of them plus more make this show great and the cd a must-have! i'm sure, if we all wish really hard, this product will appear before us!! haha!!!!
I would rather the 1976 Lincoln Centre cast recording were reissued on CD. That edition had Raul Julia and Ellen Green and featured the most direct translation yet. I seem to recall their were problems with the Weill estate preveniting it from being released on CD.
Someone posted that Joan Jett was upset with the production values for ROCKY HORROR. Clarification please: production values of the show or the recording?
If the show, that should have no bearing on her making a recording and if she was concerned how the album was being produced, did she want it more like a "pop" album rather than a cast recording? Very strange.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Joan Jett wanted to be paid for the cast album like she had been paid for her pop music albums...i.e. a big advance - not agreeing to the Broadway standard minimum terms set by Equity and AFTRA for all cast members in cast recordings.
Other factors were involved too - but that was a biggie.

A woman asked Alan at the stage door yesterday afternoon if it would be recorded. He said he had no idea and no plans were set. Cyndi concurred and said that she, also, has no idea and to talk to the powers that be.
That stinks this show needs a recording. We need to start a petition to Roundabout or something.
Personally, I'd love this cast to record the show, but with Blitzstein's translation of the lyrics. It's a great group of actors and singers, but there's only so much they can do with that lemon of a libretto handed to them by Mr. Shawn.

I called the Roundabout Theatre today to ask if a cd was in the works. The receptionist wanted to put me through to the marketing department but they were all out to lunch. She seemed surprised that there was any interest in a cast recording. She said she would pass along to the marketing dept that there has been interest on the internet.
Doesnt't sound very hopeful.
Haa. We should march around outside the theatre until they record. (I'm so desperate to have a recording I'm not completley joking).
