I want a whole cd of Brian Charles.
Wish that would happen.
Love, him!

Will do Higgins. It's closing so soon I'm not sure if it has any real chance, but who knows? It's still doing so well, I really think quite a few people would bother to buy it even if the show closes.
Amen, Corine! He's incredibly talented and I've been lucky to find out first hand what a sweet and genuine person he is.
How hard will it be to get tickets for this show before it closes??????

It's not coming close to selling out, so getting tickets should be no problem.

I'm going to the Wednesday matinee, but am nervous if they will have the half off seats a half hour before the curtain. Has anyone done so recently!?

i'm just as anxious as anyone and want the cd as well, but i emailed roundabout's info on link on their website and all i got back was a "thank you for your comment." i don't know what that means, but it seems like they didn't really read it. I won't give up: i'll try again, but if anyone knows who else to email, or how to get in touch with the right people, contact info would be much appreciated and would be good just to let everyone know, and more people would probably contact them. so if you know how to make things happen (or at least attempt) info would be wonderful!
I e-mailed too and I expect I will get a similar non-answer. I think it's time to start calling.

Unfortunately, I have heard nothing about a recording of this
production of
The Threepenny Opera, so I would say it looks doubtful.
Thank you for your message.

If you want a recording of the show, get to know the sound engineer. 'Nuff said.
I'm curious as to WHY it's turned out this way, though...
I wish every show could get a cast album but if it comes to a choice between recording a new or previously un-recorded score, and doing a re-recording of a show, I would always opt for the former.
There is no hard and fast rule that every revival gets recorded. In fact for many years, revivals were not recorded. The label that had the OCR simply used the revival as a chance to promote the original album.
Labels generally do re-recordings of shows only if they feel the sales will support them. RCA Victor recorded the Lincoln Centre revivals in the 1960s because it was a chance to get new stereo recordings of classic shows, sometimes featuring original stars (ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, CAROUSEL, KISMET.)
SWEENEY TODD was recorded because Sondheim cast albums sell well so Nonesuch and PS Classics have been recording the revival casts of all his shows.
PAJAMA GAME was recorded because Harry Connick is one of Columbia's artists, and because the OBC was made in 1954 and recording technology has developed a lot since then. (PAJAMA GAME has not been recorded a lot: It has the OBC, the long out-of-print original London cast. the film soundtrack (missing 3 songs but including all the dance music), and the Jay 2 CD studio cast.)
Last season LA CAGE was not recorded because there already was a perfectly fine OBC recoding (digital too - one of the very first DDD cast albums) and despite pleas from fans it was considered a risk to record. SWEET CHARITY did get recorded but when the show closed abruptly sales dropped off.
THREEPENNY OPERA has the 1954 off-Broadway cast (on Decca), the 1976 Raul Julia version (on a Columbia Lp only), The Donmar London production (on Jay) and the 1989 film version (MACK THE KNIFE - on CBS). The 1989 revival with Sting (who was a big name at the time) was not recorded either.
Cast changes in long running shows pose another problem. Though the WICKED airheads would love it, can you imagine how awful it would be if Decca had to re-record that show every time the cast changed?
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
I hope it gets recorded! we should have at least one OBC with cyndi Lauper!
Frontrow,
I always appreciate your commentary, you are truly educated on the subject of cast recordings and I have seen what a tremendous expert and resource you are.
I hope you realize that I was in no way saying that there is any kind of "rule" for revivals to be recorded. I was simply stating that Roundabout's recent revivals HAVE been recorded. No, it should never have been expected, but it did indeed happen. It was just a statement on my part that I wish this production would be as fortunate as the others I referenced and receive a recording.
You're right, we have other valuable recordings of Threepenny already and I certainly don't deny it. That fact, though, does not keep me from feeling a fondness for this particular production and a strong desire to see it recorded. I prefer the vocals and orchestrations in this production to any of the others on record, so I want it laid down on CD, plain and simple. It's just how I feel.

Are all those threepenny recordings in english? Becuase i have never heard a decent quality english language recording.
I wouldn't buy a Threepenny CD after that horrible performance at the Tonys (I own the off-Broadway Threepenny CD, though)
well... about the performance at the Tonys... they really shouldn't have performed that song... and it was a cut version... please, don't judge the show on one performance!!
please, don't judge the show on one performance!!
Isn't that kinda what the Tonys are for? Sucks for them, but...

Or please don't judge a show if your favorite is Brooklyn.
Just saying...

I agree with that, Also, I dont like how people are saying how bad ThreePenny is and they havent seen it yet that just bothers me. Not to be rude or anythin.

People forget the key things about the performance:
1) It's Brecht. It's not the typical musical (hell, it's hardly a musical!).
2) The song is a pivotal moment in the show.
3) It was awesome.
