It closes on June 25....it isn't June 25 yet Darlings.
They haven't said no recording yet, but roundabout and everyone else has said "doubtful"
There probably won't be a recording.

Well that's a nice sentiment for the many of us who are seriously bothered over the lack of a recording. You may not have liked the production, but why do you have to gloat over something that's upsetting for others? Would a cast recording of this production cause you some sort of harm or could you just, oh I don't know, not purchase it?! Anyway, thanks for being an
A-hole.

thanks for that - that was a kind defense... that comment by 'itstheM' was rather mean spirited...
anyway, I was speaking to someone at the Weill Foundation about this and this was the response.
"I haven't heard a word about a cast recording. There has been no inquiry about it, so if people are saying we won't allow it, they're using that as an excuse. I think the problem is that the theater doesn't have cast album rights until it goes to a "first-class" APC production -- which it won't, if it closes on 25 June. No one has asked for an exception."
I am assuming that has to do with the fact that the Roundabout has LORT status for a certain time and that once that time is up, its contracts change.

Toomey,
Anytime, buddy! This CD is something we've both been hoping for!
I think it's such a terrible waste to let this cast go unrecorded.
P.S.- Check your PMs.

The merchandise employees at Threepenny suggest people writing to or calling higher-ups at Roundabout, simply stating interest and hope for a recording before it is too late. Apparently they get about 30-50 requests/questions regarding a cast recording at each performance and they are as baffled and frustrated as some of us are.

It's time I send a letter to roundabout.
Like that would do much good.
C'mon! At least record SOLOMON SONG and LUCY'S ARIA! And the orchestrations! And the Tango Ballade. And then record the Moritat. And the Easy Life Ballade. And the Army Song. And the Wedding Song. Maybe PIRATE JENNY. The ACT ONE, ACT TWO, and ACT THREE finales. The Jealousy Duet would be nice, as would the No Song. And the Inadequecy of Human Striving and the Reprise. The Overwhelming Power of Sex and reprise would be fun! How about the Goodbye Song and Polly's Song as one little bitty track? Call from the Grave? Asking Forgiveness? A Morning Hymn? An Overture? The Rather Than Song?
They don't even have to be in THIS order!
That's all we want!

Posted: 6/12/06 at 10:08pmI don't understand why they won't record this show. It has such a superb cast and it has been doing above 80% on average which for a show that got such bad reviews is a great achievement; the Roundabout must know that what's probably keeping the show running is not word of mouth but the magnificent cast they lined up to star in this production (while I thought the production was nothing short of brilliant, some of the people I have spoken as well as the critics disagree with me). With such a hard-working, talented cast that has kept the show doing good business I don't see why they wouldn't release a cast recording. Where's Ghostlight Records when you need them? (or are they not able to release this recording because of the Roundabout?)

Posted: 6/12/06 at 10:10pmI REALLY want the new translations and cast recorded. Tango-Ballad (what's it called now?) is amazing, as is Lucy's Aria.

Posted: 6/12/06 at 10:18pmCouldn't a lack of recording be related to an issue of certain record labels and their artists?
#22re: threepenny closing mean no recording?
Posted: 6/12/06 at 10:29pmThe show has been doing so well, especially considering awful reviews, it deserves one. I want one so bad. I loved the music and performances. Such an exceptionally tallented cast.

I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm preaching, but I really think anyone interested in this production getting recorded should drop an email or call someone in the production dept. or marketing dept. at Roundabout. I'm going to see who I can talk to tomorrow. They need to know that the interest is there.
In reference to Ghostlight, I talked to them last month. I wrote to Kurt, praising the vocal talents of the cast and the phenomenal orchestrations, to ask if he had/would consider doing the recording. As it turns out, he was interested and DID indeed look into it, but decided it would be too risky an investment. I also spoke with the folks at PS Classics in May and they hadn't seen the production yet, so couldn't comment on whether or not they would record it. Mr. Krasker, though, admitted he would be seeing it sometime in the weeks following our email correspondence and was excited to be taking it in.
So basically, it looks like our favorite cast recording labels that always come through and see to it that the underdog shows get recorded might not be able to save this one.
I'm curious as to WHY it's turned out this way, though. One way or another, ALL of Roundabout's recent musicals (INCLUDING revivals) were recorded. For awhile it seemed that there may be a problem with permission from the Weill Estate, but that notion has recently been clarified and put to rest by a board member in the know. Is Roundabout just not approaching labels and trying to make this happen? Are there legal issues over Ms. Lauper and Ms. McKay's contractual obligations to the record labels to which they are signed? I don't know, but personally, I hate this.
I've said it over and over again, but I'm going to say it again: it's absolutely unacceptable if this phenomenal cast is not recorded. It's just too great a handling of the score to let it go.
So seriously, anyone who is motivated to express that message to Roundabout, please do.
Take care, guys!
