The answer depends on whether you are planning to do this on a weekday or weekend.
On weekdays know that most of the commuter lots for parking fill up early.
If you are doing this on a weekday, the Metropark station is one place where there will be space to park your car. $5 parking and about $16 RT train ticket.

Don't be afraid of driving right into Manhattan. You can park cheaply in the Port Authority (right in Time Sqaure), I think it's under $30 for the day. It is very easy to find after you exit the Lincoln Tunnel. The parking lot is safe and secure and Manhattan is a giant grid so it is easy to navigate.
I would be careful about parking in Jersey. The train and bus schedules are sometimes confusing and are not always dependable.
What about that Beiber bus line out of Lancaster area? You can probably get a round trip cheaper than gas and travel? I used to drive to Stroudsberg PA and catch a shuttle bus to Port Authority from there. That is totally out of your way. Lancaster has express buses here. If you have a student ID, you may be able to get a discount.

Posted: 8/21/06 at 1:30pmIf you can get to Philadelphia - you can take Greyhound $18 round trip Mon-Thur $28 Fri-Sun. You can probably find a cheap lot in Philly to park. Or drive to Trenton and catch the NJTransit $23 round trip.

The answer also depends on how many of you are going.
If it is 2+ people, driving into the city and parking wouldn't be too bad. Toll for the NJ Turnpike + $6 Lincoln Tunnel + parking.
Use www.iconparking.com to find cheap parking.
Metropark is exit 10 of NJ Turnpike to Garden State Parkway North to exit 131A.
The train from Lancaster is Amtrak which is $40+/person one-way.

The train from Lancaster to NYC is VERY expensive!!!!
I suggest taking the train to Philadelphia, then a Greyhound or Chinatown bus to NYC.
Have fun!!!

Posted: 8/21/06 at 2:55pmThere is a train that picks up in Lancaster and goes through Philly into NYC. No train changing in Philly. I have taken this many times and it is pretty good. It's $42 each way but on the amtrak website find the discount code for buy one get one 50% and you can get a round trip ticket for $63. Might be the best you can do price wise for the least amount of hassle. It is your most direct route.

Posted: 8/21/06 at 6:07pmDepends on how many people you've got going with ya to split the ways. Check njtransit.com for maps, fees, and parking, then do the math.

Posted: 8/21/06 at 7:54pmIf you end up driving, I recommend the above-ground lot on 50th between 8th & 9th (it's on the north side of the street - right across from the dodger box office). They're $18 for up to 12 hours and have never (knock on wood) damaged my car (I've been parking there for years).
