I just pulled out the OBCR and was listening to it today and thought how much I would really enjoy the Judi Dench recording. I checked Amazon, but it didn’t come up. If it was recorded are there any other web sites you can suggest where I might find it? I don’t usually by cds online but I would really like to have this on. Any information anyone could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think it was, but has been out of print for many years. You could always try EBAY, the only problem with that is how much you are willing to pay.

I too would love to hear it someday as well.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Thanks, I was afraid it was out of print. I’ll check ebay but I’m afraid I’ll probably just wait and hope that it’s reissued some day. Here’s hoping anyway.

ps if anyone else has any information that may be of relevance please share.

For sale on EBAY TODAY!

GBP 27.00
(approximately US $56.46)

re: was the Judi Dench A Little Night Music recorded?

Offered for sale is a very rare original CD of the Royal National Theatre recording of Stephen Sondheim's "A Little Night Music".

This version includes Dame Judi Dench's higly acclaimed rendition of "Send in the Clowns" and is extremely hard to obtain having been deleted from print. The catalogue number is TRING001 and the CD is guaranteed to be authentic, not a pirate copy.

The CD contains 21 tracks from the show, which can be seen on the photo of the CD booklet.

The CD itself is in superb condition, as is the booklet. The one very small fault with the booklet is that the corners show very slight wear from being slid into the jewel case - this can be seen on the photo if you look carefully.

I am very lucky to have two versions of this CD, but as you can only listen to one at a time I am selling my spare one so that another fan can enjoy the recording!

This recording appears very rarely on eBay, so don't miss your chance to own a modern classic. I am happy to answer any questions before the auction ends. Please don't ask me to end the auction early as this would be unfair to the other bidders.

Given the value of this CD I would prefer to ship it by special delivery, but will be happy to send it by 1st class signed for if requested.

Payment can be made by Paypal at no extra cost, cheque or cash. Please note that cheques will need to clear before the CD is posted.

I made three bids and was immediately out bid after each one. The price is now up to $73 US and I just can’t afford to pay more than that I am really devastated.

Dench is great, as always, but don't kill yourself to get your hands on that recording. I still don't think the OBCR has been topped.

On that recording, "The Glamorous Life" uses both the movie version and the stage version, alternating back and forth, and it drives me crazy. Also, "My Husband The Pig" is included, and I've never found that song on a level with the rest of the score. I played this recording a couple of times, and then never returned to it. Once the Original Broadway Cast Recording was remastered, with "Night Waltz II" reinstated, there was never a reason, in my opinion, to listen to any other version.

There was an hour long profile of Judi Dench (Bravo used to show it occasionally, back when they actually ran interesting shows) that included rehearsal and performance footage of that production, including Send In The Clowns. I wish I'd taped it.

Dench's "Send in the Clowns" is one of the many highlights of the "Hey Mr. Producer" DVD.

The label TRING went belly-up so their masters are now in limbo. That is why the recording is no longer available. When copies surface on E-bay they go for obscene amounts of money. Is it worth it? Hard to say. The original 1973 recording is still the very best but I'd place this one a close second. It is much much better thn RCA's disc of the 1975 London production or TER/Jay's studio cast album.

The collapse of Livent did the same thing with the Toronto cast recording fo SHOW BOAT but there are still plenty of copies of that CD around.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

Both the Judi Dench version, and the 1990 City Opera Versions were recorded. The Judi Dench version is VERY good. Dench's performance is incredible, but the Original Broadway Cast Recording, overall is better. However, Dench at many times is better than Glynis Johns.

And the kicker is, sooner or later it will be reissued on affordable CD -- I've been burned by that trap before.

I believe the PBS airing was a "Live at Lincoln Center production" and therefore will never be sold to the public on DVD or Tape. Just like PIAZZA...

I'm not aware of a CD recording of that production, but you should check the gift shop at Lincoln Center.

The 1990 PBS Broadcast of "A Little Night Music" had been recorded from a VCR, and converted to DVD. It's not legal, but many have done it. Several sites do sell it though.

I think by "recorded" they mean CD, not a VHS or DVD.

No the City Opera NIGHT MUSIC was never recorded. In 1990 it was telecast - once - on Live from Lincoln Centre, and cannot be relesed (legally) on DVD.
