Does anyone think that any current or recently current broadway stars are washed up or should start acting their age? Just trying to think of a new topic. discuss away...
haha, i knew someone was going to mention that. now while i really do enjoy michael crawford, i DO think that he should try something his own age on broadway. obviously DOTV, which i thought was good, but flawed, demonstrated that he cant act too young anymore, but i think there are plenty of roles (ive heard him mentioned for thre part for Higgins in my fair lady) for him still to play on broadway. while dance may have not been the best way to showcase his current self, i still believe he has a wonderfully unique voice that still works in perfect order and that he should still return to the stage. plus, his comedic acting is far underrated. he made a large name for himself as a comedic actor far before phantom. keep em coming!
theatreboy, on the topic of Crawford acting young in DOTV, I'm not sure the role of Krolok (sp?) is a young one. What age was he meant to be? I'm basing my opinion on most of the vampire movies I've seen where the lead vampire is usually an old man. Perhaps in this show he was meant to be young, but I don't think so. Can you shed more light on it? Thanks!
perhaps he was supposed to be old, obviously his age is inconsequential as he is "undead", but i just believe critics didnt enjoy seeing him trying to suck in his gut, grow out his hair, seduce a young woman, and be more of a rock star than an old vampire. he's a great actor, but krollock was just a little too far of a stretch. hope that helps
You spelled Chenoweth wrong. I wouldn't say Foster and Chenoweth are washed up...epecially not Sutton, she's pretty much a newcomer herself. And with these two performing, who NEEDS new talent?! (That last sentence was not meant to be taken seriously, just making a point that they are among the best of the best in my book. And Sutton IS the best of the best in my book)
Thanks, i like it too. I absolutely loved him, and Barbara S. in the Hello Dolly film (and i dont care what Dollypop has to say about that). His voice was so cute and untrained sounding, but it worked as he played such a naive character.
