swing -- singer and/or dancer who is prepared to substitute for chorus members who understudy featured/leading roles

A swing is an "understudy" for the ensemble and covers several different "tracks" within a show. If any one of a half dozen or more ensemble/chorus members is out, a swing will step in for them.

A temporary replacement who performs the absent person's part exactly as they do in the show.

yeah I think so

When someone blunders, we say that he makes a misstep. Is it then not clear that all the ills of mankind, all the tragic misfortunes that fill our history books, all the political blunders, all the failures of the great leaders have arisen merely from a lack of skill in dancing. - Moliere

yes, a stand by does not take part in the performance on a regular basis or they would be called an understudy. Usually a standby is someone of some reknown, who hopefully when going on, will help less people want to get ticket refunds because they person they are standing by for is out.

Gretchen Wyler was the standby when Lauren Bacall did APPLAUSE, Bibi Osterwald was the standby for almost the entire Broadway run of Hello Dolly! etc.
