hi all,
i'm a tenor with big range (comfortable at a C/C# belt). basically, i'm looking for the ultimate song that will blow people away! any ideas at all would be more then appreciated. i'm searching desperately; i need something that gives you tingles if it's performaed well...
thanks heaps
I can't think of anything much better than "Being Alive."
"Love Changes Everything"
"Music of the Night"
"Why God Why?"
"Purpose"
"On the Street Where You Live"
"Wick"
"Sit Down You're Rockin' The Boat"
Just the first ones that come to mind....
run, freedom run- although its not particularly high
And the Money Kept Rolling In (And Out)
Rainbow Tour
A New Argentina
High, Flying Adored
Point of No Return
I don't know if this is a tenor part, but a lot of the songs from Movin Out are good, too... my personal fave is "River of Dreams/Keepin the Faith"
Hope that helps.

Anthem from Chess.
Lost in the Wilderness from Children of Eden
For some reason I love the "Painter's Song" from Amour.
"A Simple Song" from "Mass" is a great choice.

"Soliloquoy" with the alternate high note.

Petrified from Taboo (definately show stopping, but it seems more baritone-ish)
Close Every Door from Joseph (more baritone?)
What Do I Need With Love? from Millie
I Don't Care Much from Cabaret (again, maybe more baritone)
Sorry, I realize I only picked one real tenor song, but hey, what else do you expect from a baritone?

"You Are Love" from SHOWBOAT, with the B flat at the end ("Heaven will AHHHHHL-ways be").
Or, Maria from West Side Story, with the optiional high obligato that almost never gets done - another long sustained B flat.

You want tenor tingles? I strongly suggest "Anthem"
Definetely "Anthem"
Anthem is a baritone song. It only goes to a G, if you want a showstopper song that will show off those REALLY highnotes, do Pity the Child. It has two breif C#s in it but if you can pull it off it's incredible. It does require a rock voice, though, to really do it justice.

Some of my favorites, a few already mentioned (these should be a piece of cake if you're good at a C sharp):
Why God Why? ~ Miss Saigon (especially with lots of emotion, this awesome song can send chills down my spine )
Bui Doi ~ Miss Saigon
Endless Night ~ Lion King
This is the Moment ~ Jekyll & Hyde
Sarah ~ The Civil War
Close Every Door ~ Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Valjean's Soliloquy ~ Les Misérables
Who Am I? ~ Les Misérables
Javert's Soliloquy ~ Les Misérables
Empty Chairs at Empty Tables ~ Les Misérables
There is a much better song than the status quo Tenor songs...here's a couple for you to consider.
"Lonely House" from Street Scene. It hits a B flat at the end right in the middle of a retard so there's a great spot to just stay there.
"Not While I'm Around" from Sweeney is a great one too. Hits A flats. There's very rare musicals that you'll have to hit higher than an A. Higher than that gets into Phantom, Jean Val Jean roles and if that's your type then go w/ those and run.
Good luck!
my faves are "run, freedom, run" ~ urinetown
"what do i need with love?" ~ millie
"I think it was the Korean tour or something. They were all frickin' asian!" -Zoran912
I don't know the first song but I really like the Millie song but it's a very over done song right now. So hard to find great songs that you don't hear out of every Lyric Baritone or Tenor. :-P
i actually really havent heard people do "run freedom run" at auditions and such, but yes, "what do i need..." is WAY overdone!
finding songs for us is quite a challenge! ughh

"Love Can't Happen" - Grand Hotel.
'A Bit of Earth' from Secret Garden is pretty good. Don't know if I'd consider it show-stopping but it's a great song for a tenor.
Beautiful Girls, from Follies
She Wasn't You, from On a Clear Day You Can See Forever
More subtle, but if you have a beautiful legato line, Younger Than Springtime from South Pacific
