"I'd probably go, and then walk out halfway into the first act just for the effect."
As you would have every right to and I'm sure it would teach that "douchebag" a lesson.
re: what went wrong between YF reading & the show?#27
Posted: 11/10/07 at 3:32amoh it wouldn't be about teaching ole money bags mel a lesson, i'd do it to give those poor people who wasted there money something interesting to look at for a few minutes while i fight my way through the row of people in the dark. It would be a welcome distraction from the painful death they were dying in their seats just watching the show.

"He's too cool to release the numbers"
I've asked this before, but why does this matter? So he won't release the grosses, it's his show, and his right not to. How does that make him a douchebag?
re: what went wrong between YF reading & the show?#31
Posted: 11/10/07 at 3:36amOh come on WickedBoy2! I am rather enjoying this. I always love a good debate in which I can use my logical and rational reasoning to counter the opponent's intelligent viewpoint. *please read the sarcasm here...*
re: what went wrong between YF reading & the show?#32
Posted: 11/10/07 at 3:38amI'm also rather enjoying this. Watching people blindly defend greedy millionaires makes me laugh (eventually it makes me weap, but at first it makes me laugh)
re: what went wrong between YF reading & the show?#33
Posted: 11/10/07 at 3:41amHmm, I do not believe I have ever defended Mel Brooks in this conversation. I merely asked how you knew he was a douchebag, but I never said I didn't agree. Perhaps you have assumed that fact based on my request for you to explain your reasoning, but that assumption could indeed be incorrect.
re: what went wrong between YF reading & the show?#34
Posted: 11/10/07 at 3:44amso you're saying Mel Brooks is indeed a douchebag. Well im glad we could agree.
re: what went wrong between YF reading & the show?#35
Posted: 11/10/07 at 3:46amAgain you jump to conclusions. I have yet to comment on my feelings about Mr. Brooks.

so which is it? I she a douchebag, or your personal jesus?
Have an opinion, cause discussions with people who have no opinions is pointless.

re: what went wrong between YF reading & the show?#38
Posted: 11/10/07 at 3:51amthis isn't my attitude to theatre, this is my attitude to the bloated douchebag that is Mel Brooks (and the clowns behind Spring Awakening).

"I'm also rather enjoying this. Watching people blindly defend greedy millionaires makes me laugh (eventually it makes me weap, but at first it makes me laugh)"
So, basically you're just a bitter old hen because you're poor.
re: what went wrong between YF reading & the show?#40
Posted: 11/10/07 at 3:53amNeither. I do not know Mr. Brooks personally and I feel that makes me incapable of issuing such a decree about his character. When I buy a ticket to the theatre I am paying for an evening of entertainment. I purchased a ticket to this show for $78 in Seattle and felt I received what I had paid for. For some people, that price is too steep, for others, they are willing to pay more. Mr. Brooks' moral integrity has very little to do with what I or anyone else watches onstage.
re: what went wrong between YF reading & the show?#41
Posted: 11/10/07 at 3:53amOld? I'm far from old. As for being bitter and poor, I am both but not one because of the other. I'm bitter than **** theatre keeps getting pushed to the forefront instead of something decent, and worth seeing. And I'm bitter that people who have no business making shows continue to make them.

and I have no doubt if you got offered a role with an Equity contract in one of those shows you so despise you wouldn't think twice about taking it.
re: what went wrong between YF reading & the show?#44
Posted: 11/10/07 at 3:58amAnd I wouldn't be able to look at myself in teh mirror as long as I was in the show.
re: what went wrong between YF reading & the show?#45
Posted: 11/10/07 at 4:01amThen your in the wrong business. There are so many more deserving people out there than you, thats obvious now.

oh because I'd be ashamed of being in a ****ty project?
Please, spare me the moral superiority routine.
I never once said anything about the actors in YF. I don't fault them for being in the show. A paying acting gig is an acting gig (hell a non paying acting gig is still an acting gig). I don't fault the designers for designing the show or the director of directing the show. If i ever saw the show and didn't like the way any of said people did their jobs I'd fault them that.
I fault Mel Brooks because i don't need to see the show to know he's a hack. His behavior leading up to this show tells me all i need to know.
re: what went wrong between YF reading & the show?#47
Posted: 11/10/07 at 4:07amAnd so Liverpool, it would seem I have made my point and you have moved on to a new battle and with that, I say good night.
re: what went wrong between YF reading & the show?#48
Posted: 11/10/07 at 4:09amGood theatre can be done cheap. If braodway producers would realize that, they'd be able to make more profitable shows that can actually last longer than a few months.

After seeing some of the show in previews, I saw a couple of clips of the show on that video site we're not talking about, and I decided not to go based on those clips. Thought it was a lot of hoopla over nothing--trite songs, boring choreography ("don't resist it's all in vain-ia, it's the latest craze"...no thanks).
I like Mel's humor when he's not trying to be Benny Hill, but it's not enough to make me pay any price to see a show that sounds like the songs were thrown together during a traffic jam.
