when did norbert go to rent

it says in his bio he was a part of the rent original broadway cast, but he isn't on the cd.

He was a swing originally, I believe. He became Steve when Gilles Chaisson left, and then Roger when Adam left. Or, at least, he was Steve on Adam's last day!

He was one of the original swings/understudies for Roger and he was the first replacement Roger after Adam Pascal.

He was the original understudy for both Mark and Roger.

Norbs played Mark a few times and later became Roger once Adam left. I remember reading that Norbs was Roger on Anthony's last show.

I have a soundclip from his last Roger show (don't know if it was before or after his return) and it sounds SO emotional. He's crying, Mimi's crying, the girls doing the recording are crying....

Really wish I could have seen the man! I've only heard GREAT things.

ddtruitt, it says in the Rent Bible that he was in the OBC. I think they would have mentioned David Driver even if he did leave just for the sake of another story.

In my opening night playbill (and even in one dated May '96), Norbert was not listed in the cast AT ALL. David Driver is listed as a Mark/Roger swing. (Anyone who has heard the clips of him singing Glory knows why he was there for such a short time.) Simone (who I believe they also left out of the Rent book) is listed as a swing for Joanne/Mimi.

It's very possible you saw Norbert as Roger, then, because he left RENT (the first time) in October of '98.

If you read the interview Lizzie posted (http://www.talkinbroadway.com/spot/nlb2.html), Norbert makes it clear that Rent was already running when he moved to NY: "I was familiar with Rent and I have to say it was a real confidence booster for me. I came up to New York right after the show had opened and saw it during opening week." (He then says he was cast by one of the publicists who saw him at an off-b'way benefit because they needed an understudy)

I would imagine that The Rent Book was made a little while into the Broadway production, and they ended up profiling whoever was in the cast at the time it was made, which was Norbert by that point. There is one other inconsistency between who is listed on the OBCR and who is listed in the book, I believe Simone (vs. Shayna Steele, though I could be wrong).

it says in his drs bio that he was in the original company of rent when he they wen to broadway it says "Rent (original cast, Broadway debut)"

FWIW, ibdb lists David Driver with the opening night castand Norbert in replacements.
