Exactly. I don't get that either - WICKED's lyrics are god-awful. And how Joe Mantello didn't win for ASSASSINS, but WICKED? His ASSASSINS is brilliant - his WICKED direction is hardly there.

i second the Joe Mantello notion. how could critics be so... so... dumb? anyways i had something to say... but i can't think of it, crap!

Q was nominated the year before when it was still off-Broadway so it wasn't eligible this year after it moved to Broadway (the Drama Desks recognize off, off-off and on Broadway equally). Q lost to Hairspray in 2003.

And I'll just go on record in saying IMO the Tesori-Kushner score for Caroline was a class above all of the others -- pure genius.

Thank you, munkstrap. Q is cute and great in context, but the music alone... it's repetitive and not too impressive. Wicked it good, nothing great. *ducks rocks* Taboo was just stellar, and I am hoping to get Caroline out of the library soon.

Exactly. Caroline is decent - only one memorable song, and lyrics so desperately intelligent you can't pay attention to the show because you're sitting there trying to decipher what was just said - in general the melodies and general musical themes in that show sound like things I picked out on my piano when I was 8.

Nothing compares to Taboo's score. Those who disagree just don't know it.

Wow, munkus. You were picking out stuff like the "Moon Trio" on piano when you were 8? Why aren't you off doing recitals at Carnegie Hall?

And in all the fuss about Ann Harada's lack of a Supporting Actress nomination, people overlooked the actress I thought should have won- Veanne Cox.

Christopher Fitzgerald, Brian D'Arcy James, Euan Morton, and Shoshana Bean are all people I think should be winning Tony's as often as possible...but have yet to have their crowing glory.

I'm also gonna agree with Margo...the Caroline score was SIGNIFICANTLY better than any of the others. Heck, I'll even go as far as to say it was an overall better show in every way than the others. And, I'm a fan of Wicked and Q.

Not that she hasn't gotten *any* recogntion (there were a trillion interviews/articles etc about her 16 hour days) but someone needs to write an orginal part for Kathy Brier in a new show, because she's flippin' fantastic. The defintion of triple threat.
