i mean the people who are always criticized for every little thing and are constantly passed over for awards (sorta like Susan Lucci, only applying to bway)
Recognition in what way? Not being cast enough, not winning Tonys, not winning awards? WHAT?

Raúl Esparza deserves a Tony.
ahhhhhh!
He doesn't deserve a Tony. He needs a Tony. His lack of a Tony is theatrical injustice.... amazing as Michael Cerveris is... just... no.
Ah, thanks. Are you a guy or girl - just curious. anyway. I would say:
Raul Esparza - Destined to win a Tony one of these days, but I wouldn't go as far to say he hasn't gotten recognition in other ways. Tony's aren't everything, especially since the person that usually wins them are clearly not the true best actor. *cough* idina menzel and marissa jaret winokur.
Jeffrey Carlson, Max von Essen, Mandy Gonzalez - MORE WORK!
Yessssss. Raúl Esparza should win a Tony for breathing, put on a dress and win Best Actress.
I love you guys. :)
Honey, when I tell you that Mr. Esparza can do anything, I don't mean that he can win Best Actress.
Oooo, Jeffrey Carlson! Yes!
Emcee... you never know.
I don't judge talent by Tony awards anymore - so the fact that Raul hasn't won one isn't so bad. They're so fixed and political now.

I never said he wasn't recognized in other ways. Just stating he should have a Tony. And yes, Emcee put it better...he NEEDS a Tony!
MNIL- LOL!!! I love you too!!!
I do agree with Jeffrey Carlson too, what a force of talent!
By the way, If you were inquiring about my gender, I'm a lady.
No honey, not yours - Yankee's.
i think the Taboo costume designers shoulda won a tony. why do closed shoes never win a tony?
Maureen McGovern. When I went and saw her in LITTLE WOMEN the crowd ignored her to get to talk to Sutton Foster and that was just wrong. In my opinion, Maureen was leaps and bounds better than Sutton in every aspect and she was just brushed aside. God, she has an amazing voice.

C-Q-or-T -- I think TABOO didn't win it because, as you said, it closed. I think it should have won SO many more Tonys-- it's such a brilliant show.
As for Raúl, the Tony is right around the corner for him.

Taboo deserved to win Best Score, Best Costumes and Best Featured Actor.
I think Sarah Uriate Berry needs to become famous.
I don't think TABOO should have even been nominated for costumes. All the costumes that got attention were clothes really worn by Boy George and Leigh Bowery in real life, there was not very much originality in them. Some of the things Euan wore as George are really Georges. They didn't design them, they just recreated them. And the ones they did design were nothing more than leather jackets, jeans, tank tops, and bathrobes. Well, the club costumes were kind of cool but hardly Tony worthy. I'm not bashing TABOO, it's my favorite.
Yankee guy - let's have sex.

im taken, sorry.
what a request!

All of Taboo's best and most interesting costumes were simply exact copies of Leigh Bowery's original designs -- I think the Tonys were right in not giving an award to the show's designers who didn't really do anything other than put together exact replicas of Bowery's work from the 80s.
Closed shows rarely win because the Tonys are primarily a marketing tool (and have been for decades) more so than an award of "excellence." They are administered by Broadway producers for Broadway producers as a big commercial for Broadway. If you want awards that are more about excellence, look the Drama Desks which are decided by critics and journalists -- none of whom have any financial interest in the shows that they are awarding.
again, thank you Margo!
I'm just being stupid. ANYWAY, back to TABOO:
I can see why Michael won the Tony, his performance was one of a kind and truly amazing. BUT....
the 2004 Tony for best score was a JOKE. Out of all the nominees, Avenue Q has the least impressive score. It's not bad, it's just simple but frankly, very irritating. CAROLINE's music is decent, but not Tony worthy. And I hate WICKED, but some of the music is WICKED is undeniably amazing. But finally, it is a complete shame that George didn't win the tony for best score - it's such a clear choice. Brilliant lyrics and amazing music - I just don't understand it. Next to Antonio not winning a tony for NINE, and Jane Krakowski beating Mary Stuart Masterson also in NINE, that is one of the biggest TONY mistakes of all time.
i don't know how CRITICS can give a drama desk to Wicked for lyrics!? and Q is not even nominated for best musical!?
