Probably because it's Non-Equity and they are doing the 90 minute Vegas version.
If I was an audience member paying top dollar for a ticket to the show which is probably paying actors about $400 a week, then saw non-union talent for 90 minutes, I'd be pissed.
I thought they were just doing the 90 minute version in Atlantic City and then were reverting back to the original script in subsequent cities.

There are plenty of Non-Equity tours going on that have there own full website, and all kinds of promotional items. Middle America doesn’t care either way they just want to see show.

It's time for true blue Hairspray fans (not in NYC) to turn their attention to regional productions. First up: The North Shore Musical Theater in Beverly, Mass., presenting Tracy and Edna in the round. This September.

^^Which I am very excited about. It actually opens on October 24, I'm seeing in in November.

Did anyone else find this slightly amusing? Or is it just me? :o)

Fosse76, I also found it to be slightly amusing.
I'm not sure why they haven't announced a cast list yet. I know the Tracy well, and she's amazing but I don't know any of the cast. They are only doing the ninety minute version in Atlantic City, the full version in other cities.

"Middle America doesn’t care either way they just want to see show." Sadly, that's true about a lot of things when it comes to "middle America".

i've actually been seeing the commercials for this tour ad nauseum lately (i live in jersey) the only difference i spotted is tracy's wig is now red and blonde instead of brown and blonde

jonart,
I'd be curious to see that since I havent seen anything about this yet in that respect. Are you sure it isn't from the past tour? I know the non-eq company is using much of the same press materials.
The tour JUST started perormances on Tuesday... three days ago. They didn't set foot on the sets until a week and a half before that. It takes time to take production photos. compile press packets, etc etc.. The website is being overhauled... what the final outcome will be, I am not sure, but I hope it will be more user friendly than past Hairspray sites...

hmmmm
thats kinda a shady site, hehehe

that is the same URL that has been used for the tour. The website was taken down so that it can be redisgned to serve the new tour, hence the one page display now that gives the atlantic city information..
I really do take offense at the "Middle America" comment. I happen to reside in Bardtown, KY, a small town very close to Louisville, and happen to have many friends who are theatre savy. Though I see shows in NYC and Chicago, I also catch many shows on tour and keep up with who is in a show and which shows are equity and non-equity. Believe me, there are lots of theatre literate people in "Middle America," so let's lay off the geographical bashing!

I agree there are many theatre fans in the middle of the US, however i have read the reviews of many tours that stopped by some of the smaller theatre crowd spaces that have praised tours that needed NO PRAISE what’s so ever (most resent Millie as well as Saturday night Fever). It kind of a fact. i used to live in a small place in Ca and let me tell you many people did not truly understand quality theatre... again just a generalization.... im sure both YOU as well as many of your friends are very theatre smart!!!
broadwayguy2- i shall describe the commercial as best i can. under the voiceover its tracy singing welcome to the 60's (definately not the obcr) with still shots of a tracy making kaleidoscope patterns then "dancing" across the logo. I use dancing loosely since its something akin to photo animation, they're still shots sequenced together. And all of this is on a white background.

well, VERY strange. I have seeing a LOT of use of the original national tour B-rolls lately... but THAT is new. I shall have to see it!
