Adriane Lenox dropped out for health reasons, not "personal reasons."

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Don't get your news from BWW. Go to Playbill. They are more accurate.

This jusst smells like a bomb.

I've been fortunate to see both Carolee Carmello and Karen Ziemba in a number of shows over the past several years. Carolee is a wonderful performer and she is terrific in "Mama Mia" and just about everything else she does.

Having said that, Ms. Ziemba is every bit as strong, vocally. She sang a version of "And The World Goes Round" at a benefit which lifted the audience from their seats halfway through the number.

Both ladies are among the best we have right now.

But this show has a score by Holland-Dozier-Holland!

P

P.S. Yes, they wrote a lot of hit songs. 40 years ago.

P.P.S. The fact that Carmello hasn't brought HURRICANE AMY to Broadway and shown everyone how it is REALLY done is a daily head-scratcher. Kathie Lee, the composer (don't laugh - the score is better than anything this season) talks about the show all the time on tv, at least, and Carmello just performed a song on Kathie Lee and David Friedman's EVERYONE HAS A STORY cd (as did Norm Lewis, Cheyenne Jackson, Liz Callaway, Julia Murney, etc.). And shoot me, but having seen Kathie Lee in PUTTING IT TOGETHER (Sondheim personally chose her, remember) I think SHE would be a fierce Elise... and she began her career singing those same oldies on NAME THAT TUNE so she has an affinity for the material. Her "Like It Was" from MERRILY is still the best I've ever seen that number done (YT-Rosie show).

Elise has been re-written as an African-American woman in the musical version, which automatically disqualifies Kathie Lee Gifford from ever being able to play her.

And for the record, Gifford's piece about Aimee Semple McPherson is now called SAVING AIMEE, not HURRICANE AMY. They were offered a theater for the fall of this season that was too small. When Carmello became unavailable, they decided to postpone the Broadway launch until the fall of next year when things were more viable for everyone involved.
