Yeah, that's an...interesting movie. Lovely views of Taye though, if I do say so myself.

EDIT-Cuz I just remembered...

I have also observed the fact that the Wicked fans who were RENTheads first seem to be somewhat more sane than others. Or at least more serious. Probably because if a person is intelligent enough to like RENT to begin with, they're intelligent enough to be a respectful fan.

completely agreed. i am a broadway fan- as all of you are- and find these kids are turing Wicked- a good show with wonderful music (no pun intended)- into the next Backstreet Boys or Spice Girls. I really enjoyed the musical- and have to admit i have the soundtrack in my car ready for a quick listen. The fact is, this is a show. Their lives shouldn't be centered around it.

But its understandable. Wicked is a pretty awesome show:) I just hope this show inspires these people see more of Broadway so it can live on.

Point proven.

That is good logic though. If a blockbuster show like Wicked can get Broadway what it needs to stay alive, then that's a good thing regardless of how irritating some of the fans may be.

Hey now, some of you are saying things about "little girls" (that just reminded me of playing Miss Hannigan and very bad memories... shudder), but I used to be one of them as I bet some of you were too. Except, my show changed just about every week. But, eventually, they will grow up into people who have a more eclectic view of Broadway. Just give them the chance to be obsessed when it's still cute...

I'm 15! I'm not necessarily casting blame on an age group. It's just a group of people who *act* extremely immature.

Oh, ok...true. Although some of the people who drove me the most crazy at the stage door were probably in their 20s...which was the saddest thing.

haha- agreed. but they are our future- at least their idols aren't Hilary Duff (shudder). sorry any Hilary Duff fans, but i would prefer to have to deal with a dozen screaming Wicked children than 3 screaming Hilary Duff girls. But truthfully- weren't all of us those screaming children @ the stage door (whether it was for wicked or backstreet) at one point in time? lets all just hope it passes with age...

At the age of 12/13 I loved Les Mis, Phantom, Chess, Aspects. I wasn't obsessed with any of them. They were constantly on my cd player, but I was checking out the cd section of my library every week and trying to listen to as many different musicals as I could. In fact, the first musical I saw in my "tweens" was Blood Brothers. (but then I had been aware of musicals for years - I saw Joseph when I was 9)

But you know what, I bet you've not seen anything to compare to CHITTY. Women in their 40s+ acting like 13 yr-olds at their first Westlife Concert! God it was embarrasing

They are "insane" fans at any age. When Peter Scolari was on for Dick Latessa in Hairspray (Mr. Lastessa was on vacation at the time), a group of older ladies (probably in their late thirties-early fourties) were literally pushing and shoving to get the autograph of "the guy who was on Bosom Buddies." No lie.

Old ladies absolutely crack me up, they are so adorable. Unfortunately the feeling does not extend towards Wicked teenyboppers....

Although I must say that while a lot of people know of Wicked, Idina Menzel is still basically a nobody outside the theater community-except sometimes Taye Diggs' wife.

Oh man, wickedphantom, you're right, but relatively speaking, and after we've established that tweens are the biggest culprit, jezzebelle has a point.

But have you guys seen the crowds for Hugh Jackman at BFO? Now those are some older ladies! (In my 20s, I was definitely the youngest one there, aside from the grandchildren of the patrons.)

The oldest audiences I ever saw were for Frozen and I am My Own Wife - unsurprising since they were both serious plays on Wednesday matinees. :) When I saw BFO the crowd was mixed- mostly middle-aged, with some young and old people here and there.

That's a shame, because I think a lot of younger people think they can't *relate* to some shows. I'm in my mid-20s, and really enjoyed (if you can use that word) Frozen.

JOHN LITHGOW I just realized, your last name is Butz! Both "Norbert" AND "Butz" are in your name! You must have gotten picked on a lot as a child!

Hey, I also think it's a bit of a shame. I'm 19, but I didn't spot anyone else who could possibly be under 40 at those shows. And don't get me started on the minority representation.

I hate being one of the only 3 kids who knows anything about Broadway at my high school. Its really sad when the drama club only has about 15 kids and half of them can't act or sing.
Sigh.
