wicked fans are NOT always what they seem

I must say, I am a huge wicked fan, perhaps one of the biggest there is. However, i was APALLED when i saw such posts as, and i'm serious, this WAS a real post, " OMG I LUVVVVVV WICKED WITH IDINA IN IT!!!!!!" i mean, c'mon thats ridiculous. so please, don't judge all wicked fans by certain wicked fans who go all out shilling everywhere( cough cough, elphaba with a number called tres in spanish after it)!)

It's a shame that the board is overrun by little girls like 'WickedElphieChenoIndinaInMyHeartxoxo3'. Of course, they are entitled to use the board for 'discussion' just as much as any of us, but unfortunately when they fixate on mainstream shows like Wicked or Brooklyn, they serve to discredit true fans of these productions.

I am a big fan of a lot of what Broadway has on offer right now, but when I read posts like "OMG I LUVVVVVV WICKED WITH IDINA IN IT!!!!!!", I am slightly embarrassed to classify myself as a 'fan' if it means people will liken me to these crazies.

This is actually the precise reason I put "grownup" in my posting name, a*sholish as it seems in hindsight! I enjoyed Wicked a LOT--I have seen it 3 times, have the OCR.....but 1) some of the aforementioned fans are young enough to be my children 2) I have perspective enough to see the flaws in the show and realize that it's.....3) just a show!

I'm with you grownupgroupie. I have seen the show twice (including with my 5 year old daughter who knows EVERY lyric to the show), have the OBC, and think the show is fun. Not anywhere a classic, but hummable fun.

I do find the absolution obsession by females 12-25(and many males but I'll leave them to another post)fascinating. Usually this over the top devotion is left to tv shows, i.e the creek, buffy and the OC. I don't know if anyone saw the article in the NY Times a few weeks on Mario Cantone visiting his old high school. He's from a town north of Boston. Not a suburb of Boston, but a blue collar town north of Boston The first question out of the acting class he visited? "Do you know Idina Menzel?" That was a real eye opener. I knew the show had young fans and that Wicked was popular, but this clearly showed me that show's reach is deeper that any show in the recent past and that includes Rent.

I remember being either the first, or one of the first people with a wicked based poster name. Within three months there was wickedfan2, wickedfan3 etc. not that i have anything against those posters. some of them are okay. Others are exactly the 12 year old girls who believe that they are entitled to post here thinking they know broadway after seeing Wicked twice.

yeah this post was most certainly NOT to bash wicked..it was to bash the shills. I adore wicked just as much as elphaba 3, but don't make posts about it every other second. if you'll remember, A while back, i was the only one defending wicked in a HUGE argument.

my girlfriend got me into Wicked. Its a fun show, I like it, but I'm not going to go around I LOVE WICKED!!! It gets annoying after a while lol, but thats old news.

Lord I hope you're right Sally, but I've seen, online and in person, many folks who are content limiting their Broadway exposure to one or two blockbuster shows and then act as if they should write a book on the whole darn industry. Teenagers are given to excess, yes, but I'm afraid that excess is more narrow than exploring a variety of Broadway tpyes, and will just overload on shows of a similar vein as Wicked.

I agree with sndtrklvr on the obsession it seems to have created amongst the 12-25 female set. I guess it's the "Beaches" for these kids? But I have to wonder if it "gets" to the leads, all the screaming girls. Chenoweth was known to use the back door to avoid them from time to time and I can't say I blame Idina for not always being enthusiastic. When you see the same people over and over...same thing with the lottery folks, although since Cheno left I believe the first row faces have changed. That would drive me a little bonkers

And while the "older" fans will probably never be seen standing at the stage door, or at least not more than once. I guess Wicked filled a niche that seems to have been missing.
I enjoyed the show and it's pretty much a "friends from out of town" pleaser of a show, I have to admit, I'm glad the pink doorag-wearing "cheno my cheno" kids are gone.

I wonder why though JLT has inspired the same kind of madness??

LOL-im 12 and i luv Wicked and im proud of it! of course people know i luv it waayyy to much--im like obsessed-Wicked is all i listen toand Idina Menzel is my favorite actress and Singer--i was just wondering---has anyone here seen the movie JUST A KISS??? me and my friend rented it cuz Idina was in it but we found out it was a bad movie but we watched it anyway to see her and she does bad stuff lol
