I am seeing the wicked tour at the Bushnell in Hartford this thursday. I have seen the show on broadway a few times because I live in NYC. I was wondering what the differences are between the broadway production and the touring one.

And before anyone askes, I am not a die hard wicked fan.

I am visiting a college ffor an over night trip near there and they are going to the show and I am going with them.

EDIT to fix error. Thanks Yankeefan for pointing this out very kindly

Only some minor set stuff: Not much front of house gears or scafolding. no balconies to the left and right of the stage (some little gear platform things slide out from the wings for Morrible to do her thing on.) most of the time Elphaba just runs on stage for "no good deed". no flying monkeys over the audience. and the broom in defying gravity flies in from the wings (which looks far nicer that being stuck up through a hole in the stage)

I also found the lighting to be better, espicially the projections on the floor (particularly the one that makes the stage look like it is full of fall leaves.

I'd love the chance to see the tour after seeing the Broadway production three times re: wicked tour vs broadway

I saw the original cast on Broadway and the 1st National tour in Denver. The touring production just lacked something. I was aware of the smaller set and no flying monkeys or disappearing hat in the opening. But something was missing. And during defying gravity, the front of Elphies cape was open and didn't flow out like it did when I saw it on Broadway and while the lighting was pretty spectacular, it didn't have the same effect. Is it a bad production? No. Not at all.

Something similar happened to me. I saw the pre-Broadway and Broadway versions. Loved both. Then the tour comes, and it didn't grab me the same way it had previously. It was still the same story. The only thing I could pin-point was maybe the casting. Not that they weren't good, just that most were just starting their career. Still learning how to work a stage. But since then, I haven't seen the show again.

Yeah, not as much front of curtain sets, the flying monkeys don't fly over the audience, no platforms, and when I saw the lift was a lot faster than it was in NY for defying gravity. I really enjoyed, hope you do too!

It is a top-notch tour production. I think it's in fantastic shape for a tour.

How to properly use its/it's: Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...
