Guess who's grinning happily? will CATS return to the West End?

from Playbill...

At the last night of Cats on Broadway, Andrew Lloyd Webber promised that this was only the end of one of its nine lives. Since closing in the West End after 21 years, the show has toured the UK. And, now, the London Evening Standard newspaper reports that the feline musical is pawing its way back to Theatreland.

What’s more, says the newspaper, the new London run could star some original West End cast members, including Elaine Paige, Bonnie Langford and Wayne Sleep, who have been approached about returning. The careers of both Paige and Sleep were sealed by the phenomenally successful show, and Paige had one of her biggest hits with the song “Memory.”

Rumors have been flying for months about the show’s return, but there has been no official announcement yet. Although rumors have suggested that the New London Theatre — the show’s old home — might welcome its strays back, the Standard claims that Cats will leap into the Cambridge following the closure of Jerry Springer — The Opera.

Squee!
We should organize a trip to London and bring all our fellow CATS fans with us.

This is the best news ever. I have been waiting too long for a revival of CATS. The time has come. Let us all rejoice. We need CATS back. Broadway is not the same without it.

Yep. If Playbill reported it, I'm fairly certain there's at least SOME grain of truth to it.

As for me... back in 1997, you wouldn't have found a bigger CATS fan than me. I had a lot of the merchandise, loved the music, even ran a humble little website for the show... in fact, I DO have to thank the show for getting me in to live theater... but it kinda played out with me. I moved on to other shows, always keeping a special spot for this show in my heart. Just using that as a little preface before I say that I really think this might still be too soon. It's only been, what? Five years, tops? If it'll play, then good for them- I just think it's still too fresh in the general public's mind to enjoy another long run....

Wow, but it only just closed. I remember seeing this twice in London. It would be really cool if this were true.

I think it was fun in London especially with the whole ambient setting but... Ummm... Guys... It just closed....

Can't we wait a LITTLE while longer?

I agree that it does seem a little premature, but I'm all for it - I love CATS and not ashamed.
