Spelling Bee is one of Broadway's financial successes. It made its investment back in just a little over two months of opening. A new production is presently running in Australia with a Canadian tour to begin in 2008. LA is loving the OBC out there.
This week's grosses are just under 80%. Think about how many shows have hung on playing to a fraction of those kind of houses.
Can, we celebrate what this little show is still achieving and not put the nails in its coffin just yet?

Posted: 6/13/07 at 9:47amThe show is playing at a fairly above average capacity. The total gross might be lower than other shows, but it doesn't cost a lot to run Bee each week. I can see it playing for at least another year.

i talked to lisa yuen (one of the understudies for the original broadway cast) who said that this show is going to run forever because it costs so little to put on every night, and as long as they're making money, it'll still continue to run.
i hope it doesn't close soon... it's still one of my favorite shows, it never fails to make me laugh uncontrollably.

As I said in my earlier post,Spelling Bee recouped their initial investment in about 2 and one half months.
David Stone, the producer of this also produces Wicked.I think this show is a long way from life support.
