Thanks Eyeonbroadway. I'm relatively new to the boards here so I must have missed that thread. And I thought that it had to be vocal strain on Bernadette. I usually LOVE everything she sings but that OCR just never did anything for me vocally. I like the songs though.
Thanks for the explanation.

I must be hearing something completely different on the Wicked ensemble songs because I actually enjoy those songs.
I love the Legs Diamond CD (as well as the LuPone Anything Goes)! Much more than The Boy From Oz.
I simply cannot get through LuPone's Mrs. Lovett, though. I've seen her perform several times and was always thrilled, but her performance in Sweeney is just embarassing.
With any luck, there won't be a recording of Sandy Duncan's Anna in the current tour of The King and I. Did the director attend rehearsals?

The OBC of "A Chorus Line" (which I love) has a lot of missed notes and off-key singing. Kelly Bishop, bless her, is flat for most of "At The Ballet" and there are several clunkers from various folks during "Hello Twelve."
GODSPELL - Original Off-Broadway Cast Recording
That's reallllly weak.
THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW - Original London Cast Recording
Even weaker?
hair. broadway cast.
margo mentioned several "chorus line" cast members hitting clunkers on that album, but that's nothing compared to the real ear splitting missed notes and screeching on most of the songs from the "hair" cast album.
except for ronnie dyson's version of "aquarius" i cant really get thru it. ragni and rado irritate the sh** outta me on this one.
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (I know TGC fans will kill me for this!)
Woman of the Year
Applause
Annie Get Your Gun (the Mary Martin version)
The Sound of Music (Original Cast, maybe I'm just too used to the movie sondtrack)
Chicago (the Chita Rivera/Gwen Verdon version. They maybe godesses on stage, but they don't sound well in this disc).

Funny, the OBC Chicago is far and away my favorite version of the show. For me, Chita owns "All That Jazz" and all of Velma's music and Verdon's vocal vulnerability (she had throat surgery shortly after the OBC was recorded) makes for a heartbreaking Roxie. I have all the other Chicago recordings, but for me no one else comes close to the originals.
Margo - NO YOU DIDN'T say anything bad about my Kelly Bishop!!!LOL...actually, I don't own the OBC of A Chorus Line, but I believe everything you say - so you must be right. I just happen to love Kelly in Gilmore Girls - she makes that show for me - and God love her for having a continueing role in a TV series - it must be nice to have the success in mid life when dancing is not necessarily the option anymore...
I have to agree with the comments about the emsemble singing in "Wicked." A lot of shreiking.
But...oh..."Thou Shalt Not." OY!!!

The off Broadway recording of 'Godspell" is bad - "All Good Gifts" especially
Tyne's "Gypsy" - thank God her performance was memorable
The worst thing about "Song and Dance" is Bernadette's accent!
I'm probably going to get killed for this one but the rent cd drives me crazy! As much as I love the music Adam Pascal hits many wrong notes and is flat throughout much of the cd.
Also, I agree the wicked cast blends horribly and it is extremely difficult to hear what they are singing.

Although I LOVE BERNADETTE to pieces, I feel that Song & Dance was badly recorded. She must have had her voice completely strained, and the end note of Unexpected Song is not very pleasing. But another thing that annoys me is the fact that one has to change the volume of the CD player all the time throughout. It's not consistently amazing. I LOVE the music and I LOVE BERNADETTE so much and would do anything to have seen it, but yeah...
"Carrie." The cast sound like high schoolers, except way worse.
The Original Cast Recording of You're a Good Man Charlie Brown....Atrocious doesnt even begin to describe it...

The OBC of ACL has a rawness and energy that's simply wonderful -- it sounds like it was recorded live during an actual performance which gives it an electricity that a more "perfect" recording wouldn't have. But, there's no getting around the fact that the divine Miss Bishop (whom I adore) is flat for most of "At The Ballet."

Idk, maybe it's me...everyone is entitled to their opinions but I think the ensemble to Wicked is great! I do get what you're saying though, there is this one girl who like screams in the ensemble numbers. other than that though I think they're great
Regarding Carrie - When Linzi Hateley played Carried, she was only 17 at the time, but her voice was quite powerful. Many of the ensemble were young (they were playing high school teenagers, so it makes sense).
Interesting names in the cast....
Broadway:
Betty Buckley
Charlotte D'Amboise
Darlene Love
Sally Ann Triplett (star of current Anything Goes revival in London)
Scott Wise
Lillias White (standby for Miss Gardner)
London:
Barbara Cook originated the role of Mrs. White. Other than that, the cast was almost identical to the Broadway production.
Workshop:
Maureen McGovern
Annie Golden
Liz Callaway
Laurie Beechman
Donna Murphy
I didn't know Carrie had a OBCR
ACL is totally forgivable IMO. I mean, it's a show about dancers. Now, if they sang like that for Dreamgirls, that would be a problem.
And my pick for worst sung cast recording would probably be the London version of Snoopy (although I like the show).

Somewhat random, but the French Concept of Les Miz has awful singing.... Dont get me wrong... I love the CD. The singing is just awful.

I think the new "Assassins" recording is weak. I think the cast is SOOOO amazing, but I wasnt impressed with the recording.
whatdoineed if you didnt like the new cast did you enjoy the original?
Carrie does not have an "official" cast recording. That's all I'm going to say about THAT.
