I have to agree with A Chorus Line. It was one of the first cast recordings I got, knowing it was a classic, and I was really shocked by the singing. I guess I expected all cast recordings to sound as good as My Fair Lady. :)
Sarah Jessica Parker in Once Upon A Matress. She was virtually intolerable.
Well I hate dodgy accents, so the Song & Dance OBC and the concert version of Sweeney Todd with Patti LuPone are both almost unlistenable. That goes for Whistle Down the Wind as well. There's also some weird stuff going on on the Scarlet Pimpernel OBC (not least of which is Christine Andreas' echo-locating vibrato) and all recordings of Jeykll & Hyde have some wonderful 'mockney' moments as certain actors bludgeon the London East End accent to near-death (sorry, but 'bloody' is not and never will be pronounced 'blah-he') :)
Bernadette Peters, Song and Dance is intolerable.
Zorba with Anthony Quinn.
No, No, Nanette, (London Cast).
