Yvonne De Carlo...
Ah, Paree...
Say, wha...?
Turn in your pearls. You have been demoted from Show Queen to Lady-in-waiting.
I have a recording of Eydie Gorme singing "The Ladies Who Lunch."
She swings it.
It's astonishingly bad...and kinda wonderful at the same time.
I saw Yvonne in FOLLIES twice, near the beginning, near the end. She was great both times, and I still love her version, and count it in my top 3 of those sung in the show (with Anne Miller's still the favorite). The song was written for Carlotta, but of course, sums up DeCarlo. In her case "someone's mother, then you're camp" was all in one fell swoop of course.
I still wish "Foxtrot" had stayed in the show (but love the Miller rendition on the Papermill recording).
By the way -- how about a new FOLLIES in 5 years with the SIDESHOW girls, Alice and Emily as Phyllis and Sally respectively?
Saw Yvonne twice as well & love her! My fav however is Nancy Walker singing the the song!

I know I go back and forth all the time, but I'm quite convinced at this very moment that "I'm Still Here" is my favorite Sondheim song.
"I'm Still Here" is not just my favorite Sondheim song, but it is also my favorite song period. It's perfect. And Yvonne doing it is perfection.
Well I finally listened to Yvonne De Carlo sing 'im still here'. It was ok, not my favorite tho. I still prefer Carol Burnett's version of the song.
The Burnett version (for me) drags terribly.
I can't get out of my head a movie version of "Follies" with Liza Minnelli playing Carlotta. It could become her "Man That Got Away"!

The Paris Hilton of the Depression.
And the Dionne babies were the Octomom. Wow! We really are in another depression!
What's the Abie's Irish Rose equivalent? "Mamma Mia!"?
Liza needs to sing "I'm Still Here." She needs too.
