re: 'Christmas Carol' in Baltimore canceled
 Nov 18 2009, 07:25:04 AM
It was the response to the two ads that was critical not that we were looking to have these two ads be the entire marketing campaign. On Tuesday, August 18th, a Ticketmaster email blast went out to 1,200,000 subscribers in Baltimore & D.C. announcing the production, including the names of the six stars, and offered a discount to purchase tickets prior to public sale which began Sunday, August 23rd. There was virtually no response to this massive emailing. Less than a hundred tickets sold. The tw

A fair review of the 2008 Kodak production can be read at www.variety.com/review/VE1117939277.html

I intentionally left out the billing for Sir John Gielgud's narration (recorded for this production in London in 1992)because we had received complaints during earlier productions that we had mislead customers because Gielgud wasn't actually narrating in person. I'm happy to report that last December Actor's Equity did make sure that we made contributions toward Sir John's health insuran

This is Kevin Von Feldt. The plain truth is the show didn't sell in Baltimore. We ran 2 x 5" ads in the Baltimore Sun and Washington Post in August when F. Murray Abraham, James Garner, Stockard Channing, Timothy Hutton, George Wendt and Wayne Knight were all attched to the production. The show was not overpriced at 67.50 down to 17.50 with half-price for kids.
We sold less than 1,000 tickets during the first two weeks and investors grew disenchanted. Mpls sold much better reaching 2,000 tic

Time out had it wrong and retracted later. Sir John Gielgud WAS NOT billed nor advertised last year as the narrator. He was paid in full 15 yrs ago although Equity did force me to pay for his health insurance and pension last year when we used our recording made in 1992. Only Equity would require health contributions for a man that has been dead for ten years.
The individual who raised the financing for the 2008 Kodak production, ironically one of the producers of "Catch Me If You Can", dive

It'll play the Shubert Dec 1-6. A five day presale will be offered Oct 13-17 with public sale starting Oct 18th. Like the other four cities, price scale ranges from a low of $17.50 in the balcony on Tuesday night to a high of $67.50 for an orch seat on Saturday. Kids 12 & under are half price for all performances.

True. Shrek did 80% Thanksgiving week and 95% Xmas week. But that was six weeks into the run and was probably sold long before the production opened. But the first three weeks of December were at 61%, 41% and 65%...again only six weeks after opening.

Normally, an musical with expensive running costs thats doing 49% business would be dead in the water. But there's no way that the high-profile execs @ Dreamworks would endure the embarrassment of closing Shrek before the national tour begins. If it's doing 18% business it'll probably still be running. I disagree about a Xmas surge in sales, however. With the limited run of White Christmas at the Marquis, the two MSG shows, Nutcrackers ad nauseum and a possible two-week run of A Xmas Carol with

Heard that the Xmas Carol production starring F. Murray Abraham as Scrooge along with James Garner, Stockard Channing, Timothy Hutton, George Wendt and Wayne Knight is looking for a theatre in New York for a one-week run. It opens in Boston at the Orpheum Nov 24-28 and plays the Lyric in Baltimore Dec 8-13 so Nov 30-Dec 6 is available. They tried the Hilton but the theatre has been gutted for the Spiderman musical.
