32 previews and 65 regular performances at the St. James Theatre.
Sure, word-of-mouth was largely negative, but it was grossing over $1 million a week at the time of this notice — if that's not at least somewhat safe these days for a musical, then what is?
So for everyone wondering if this would have more performances than “Redwood”, the answer is no, by almost half.

Wow that was fast. I’m sure Jamie is calling Rachel and or Andrew and Tim tonight.
I still don’t know if Andrew will go for it but he’s got to try now that the house we’ve all speculated will be available to him.
They better hurry up and put tickets on sale by Christmas if EVITA is indeed speeding onto Broadway this season.
The show wasn’t great, nor was Redwood, but it still makes me sad that two of our most prominent theater stars took a chance on originating roles in new musicals, only for both to fall flat. It’s hard to blame producers for hesitating to back new work this season.
This is going to sounds bonkers, but I swore that someone published a test version of this overnight last night with an image of Kristin in the construction gear and the heading of Final Performance January 4th. I woke up to find that it was gone.
I feel bad for my friends in the show, and also Sherie, who now loses her last scheduled performance date (1/20) - meaning that she will only be on tomorrow and 12/3.

I thought Andrew didn't want to compete with Cats. And Rachel is doing L5Y in London....

I assume they are looking at advance sales.

It's pretty logical as the hype from EVITA Summer here in London is still hot.

EVITA is next season. Different theatre.
I would imagine that this decision was less about how it’s been grossing thus far and more about the fact it didn’t have much of a viable path forward in the new year. The houses for Jan and Feb are basically entirely unsold and the negative word of mouth meant it had a very difficult path ahead- its grade on ShowScore is just 61, which is very bad for a site that tends to skew extremely positive.

Andrew didn’t but Jamie will or should try if this is truly the house he wants. I know the rumor was the Lyric too but Felton probably keeps Potter open a bit longer now. Maybe quickest is close when he leaves ?
I did like the Lincoln Center idea too.
They can make the L5Y concerts work. Tricky but she was the show in London.
Do we think this will survive until Jan 4th?
now let’s get Sherri in death becomes her !

Not only that, but just about every new musical is front loaded for the first month or two with the show queens and the NYC locals who see everything. Then if there's no WOM -- your audience is gone.
In terms of L5Y, she can do that, then have EVITA open at the St. James in the Summer. Have it run through at least January, just so it can rack up hype for awards, then extend. Therefore, it can still be in "next season" but open next year.

She’s not interested in returning to Broadway in an 8 performances a week schedule, hence why she took this standby gig. Only goes on when needed so weeks (or months) could go by between performances.

I would imagine the producers will want to avoid a Sunset situation - an exciting early season opening, then slogging through many months of uninspiring sales during the winter doldrums, then not being able to fully capitalize on awards because the engagement ends in July and winding up with no recoupment.
They turned off all comments on their final performance post. Guess people were too gleeful. 😬

Thank god she has you as her spokesperson!
Also she managed 8 perfs a week just fine with LITTLE SHOP. The QOV gig was an easy money no-brainer.
I feel like the stop clause was used here… Bill Damaschke is a deep pocketed producer and would’ve kept it running through, at least, the Tony nominations.

I think the labeling of Chenoweth as MAGA was and is entirely unfair- and decidedly untrue- but the way she handled the situation was so bafflingly tone deaf and unhelpful that it just made the situation worse.

Paddington would require a ATG house and the St James is the best ATG house.

He may be deep pocketed but that’s, like, minimum 20 million dollars to keep a show running until early May, on top of initial investment. It would never have been made back, even if it had run to the Tonys and even won some.
