RIP, Barbara Bryne, who has died at 94 May 4
2023, 09:48:19 AM
Glad to see so many others loved her "That's OK too" as much as I did! I was about to mention it. An example of what you can do with just a few words when delivered right. So happy the production was filmed.

Glad to hear these reports. Saw it in Chicago last April and was blown away by Sean's performance, And I knew he was a trained pianist, but the Rhapsody was spectacular.

"However, for mainstream folks, I'm not sure if they'd be willing to pay full price tickets to see a play based out of a movie that they can watch for less than $5 online..."
Yeah...Didn't work for Moulin Rouge... And now that Hamilton has been filmed, who's going to go see the stage version? Also, the play is not the movie.
"I'm tired of the sad gay play" Then here's an idea. D

Streisand Will Release First Memoir this Fall Feb 13
2023, 07:44:37 PM
Having fun imagining what a book signing would be like, with how she would handle fans getting anywhere within 100 feet of her. Thinking of Kathy Griffin's amusing impression of Barbra "hugging" a fan on Oprah while trying not to actually touch her.

What was the Kiss me Kate "scandal" Patti mentioned at 54 Below? Jan 3
2023, 07:46:56 PM
Forgive my ignorance if this was discussed here at the time of the revival, but I watched Patti's 54 Below concert live streamed. She did a song from Kiss Me Kate and before singing, made a reference, if I caught it correctly, to the last time it was revived and said there was a major scandal. She said SCANDAL it as if it was all capitalized, her eyes wide, but then said she wasn't going to explain what she was referring to, but would just sing the tune. So of course was natural

Patti LuPone - 54 Below Reviews? Jan 2
2023, 09:51:09 AM
I streamed as well and was grateful that we had the chance since I couldn't get to New York for it. I enjoyed it a lot, and was great to at least see what she was doing in the venue. I wish she had slowed down a bit as it felt a little rushed, from one song to the next with little commentary. I would have liked more about what these songs meant to her and why they were in her hat. She seemed to be trying to get as many songs in as possible, so it sort of felt at times like she had a train

Where's Merman when you need her? Anyone remember Elaine Stritch's story from At Liberty? An obnoxious drunk guy in the audience kept interrupting Merman, who was in mid-song. She marched off the stage, hauled the guy out of his seat, took him up the aisle and out into the street, before returning to the stage and finishing her song.

Katy Perry in THE ADDAMS FAMILY LIVE Oct 30

For those who missed it, Nathan Lane at the memorial service to Elaine Stritch, recalled Stritch visiting him backstage after seeing the show and delivering one of her classic zingers. "Whatever they're paying you, it's not enough!"

Funny Girl 2022 Revival Oct 19
2021, 02:18:06 PM
I've been away from the board for many months and only now catching up. It was hilarious with the news already announced to go back and read this thread from the very beginning and seeing so many people accuse the poster who first announced it was Beanie of wishful dreaming etc and how it could absolutely, not possibly be her. Thanks for the early heads up to the one who first put it here! And thanks for your accuracy. She broke my heard in LadyBird and am looking forward to seeing her ta

THE MUSIC MAN Changes? Oct 19

I realize many people on here have probably already seen this, but for any who haven't, Barbara Cook singing Til There Was You on Tony Awards, 30 years after and sounding even more glorious with that stunning instrument. I'm looking forward to Sutton's different approach and sound as well, but for me it doesn't get more beautiful than this:

For Linda Eder Fans: Vids from Last Week Mar 14

Our of curiosity, does Feinstein's allow patrons to record performances there on their phones, or were you ignoring the rules? If they allow it, I won't be going there anytime soon. I hate it when I am trying to watch a performance and am looking at multiple glowing phones of people who can't simply sit and enjoy the moment but feel they have to record the show, without permission from the performers or the venue.

Broadway to Close? Mar 12
2020, 08:11:17 PM
I was dreaming of getting to see Patti sing The Ladies Who Lunch. Did they really need to close the theatre? If that virus had dared to enter, Patti could have screamed at it, stopped the show, and had an usher escort it back to China.

Joanna Riding sings Losing My Mind. Stunning! Mar 7
2020, 11:29:05 PM
A tad overdone to me, and she seems to be struggling with the low notes. My first time hearing this was in the concert version of Follies at Lincoln Centre, with Barbara Cook, and her much simpler yet devastating version will always by my favourite--a reminder of what a great singer can accomplish just standing still.

re: Who Have You Seen Naked on Stage? Jan 17
2020, 09:41:54 AM
Stanley Tucci in Frankie and Johnny. I heard later that the actress who was on stage with him (Edie something) was also naked, but my attention was on the impressively toned Stanley and his tucci, and on how soon I could book a flight to Italy.
I also loved Jake Gyllenhaal's 20-minute shower scene in Sunday in the Park with George (at least that's what I've been telling friends who missed it)
