From Reddit:

"

I was there, 4 seats away from the lady. She was seated with her husband front row center. During act 1 she was constantly going through her bag loudly, and yelling responses to what the actors were saying. She was very obviously drunk and / or high. During intermission her husband tried to get her to leave. They made their way to the back of the theatre as act 2 was starting then a little while later she starts screaming at the top of her lungs that she wasn't leaving and if she couldn't see the rest of the show neither would anyone else.

She made her way back to the front of the stage, still screaming, when the show was stopped and house lights were brought up. Wendell Pierce tried to reason with her but she didn't buy it. Husband kept demanding their money back. Pierce told the usher to grab money from petty cash to pay them, but around then the cops came. I wish they would have dragged her out but they reasoned with her and she left with the husband. They then restarted the scene from the top."

Oh, if I could have jumped from the front row of the dress circle to scoop her and throw her out of the building myself, I would have. Why anyone would come to a show angry and drunk, then ruin things for everyone in the theater working or enjoying the show is beyond me. Mr. Pierce was full of grace and class as always. Ugh.

This reminds me of an incident last year at the Guthrie when they had to hold the top of the show at their opening night of A Christmas Carol when a woman started having a fit and refused to leave. They had to wait over a half hour for the police to arrive to remove her. At some point security guards are going to become the norm at theatres, and people who behave like this will be snatched and dragged out immediately.

Can I bring you to the theater with me? I get so annoyed when people are loud at the theater!!! Or when they take their phones out with that light.

I saw the second-to-last preview and the audience behavior was the worst I’ve ever seen in a Broadway house. I counted 5+ phones go off in the first act alone, plus lots of talking during candid moments. Anyone else have experiences that could point to this being a trend for this specific production?

I’ve seen it 3x and never noticed any problems with the audience.

Yesterday, my mother happened to be in town and caught & Juliet. The person next to her took her shoes off during the show and kept them off. It took everything in her power not to say something. Yuck.

Was anyone else at the performance of The Little Prince where 20 minutes from the end, a woman took out her phone, refused to put it away, shone it in the faces of people who told her to…eventually security was called. What the hekcifjd is wrong with audiences??

When I saw it a woman in the second row center flipped through the photos on her phone at full brightness the entire second act.

I wanna know if it was the same woman in the second row of SOME LIKE IT HOT, who took phone calls the other night. We can call her the “2nd Row Lady”.

If anyone sees her at any show, at any point, stand and point and yell “Shame! Shame!”

As a policeman, it must be enormously satisfying to walk into a theater and get applause.

Behind the fake tinsel of Broadway is real tinsel.

Some of the worst audience behavior I've recently experienced was at Salesman a couple of months ago. From the woman that multiple times for minutes on end used her cell phone light to look at her Playbill, to the women in front of me who seemed to think she was watching TV and reacting so loudly half the orchestra kept looking at her, to obvious picture taking, to more I chose to forget, it was a frustrating afternoon. ATG makes offering drinks such a priority, and they don't seem to let their ushers do anything to stop such behavior. Like, just wave a flashlight down the aisle, it's the least they can do, and it's really unfortunate they're not empowered to do so.

I'm totally guilty of doing this, why is this rude? I don't smell and no one can tell I do this, but I do it.

What about when we saw Summer with Oscar winner Arianna Debose? Don't you remember the ladies singing and dancing drunk? Haha.

I really wish playbills would be handed out after the show. People looking through their playbills in the middle of a show is incredibly distracting.

I saw a matinee in October. I heard not one line of the play due to continuous audience talking, opening wrappers, phones going off, and the guy behind me moaning the entire time. The lady next to me felt the need to explain EVERYTHING to her child. I even asked her to stop talking every minute but she continued. I had enough and left at intermission. I wrote a complaint to the Hudson about this but never heard back. I’ve been attending theatre in NYC for the last 12 years, and local many years before. This show, for whatever reason, attracts the worst audiences. My particular matinee was by far the worst audience I’ve ever encountered. Finally happy seeing a disruptive audience member get kicked out for their behavior. About time!

Because it’s a public space and not your living room. Show some respect and keep your f***ing shoes on, it’s really not that hard a concept to grasp on why you shouldn’t do that.

You can't ask for respect and use the F word in the same sentence you idiot. OK, point taken, I won't take my shoes off anymore, unless you are in the theater, then I will do it just to upset you for being so rude.

So, there were/are no consequences for this drunk and disorderly woman? Why wasn't she hauled off to jail and booked?
