Sweeney – Reviews  Apr 11 2023, 11:21:13 PM

It was a cheap trick. It wasn’t the fault of the tuba or the performer. Blame the director.

Sweeney – Reviews  Apr 11 2023, 10:35:13 PM

I feel compelled to make some sort of response to the general tenor of this thread in contrast to my very different feelings about the revival. Please move past this post if you don’t want to read my ramblings, and don’t berate me for taking up too much space. That’s what a scrolling thumb is for!  Good evening:

This has all gotten pretty ridiculous. A show with glowing reviews and sold out performances is getting trounced on by an insider group of so

SWEENEY TODD Revival announces further casting  Mar 1 2023, 08:06:15 PM

Could the lack of the factory whistle have anything to do with the 500,000 social media posts (many of them here) that demand to know whether there are (EEK) gunshots during the performance of every play and musical that opens every year? Because, if there are, you know, I really can’t be subjected to the unexpected aural assault that will stay with me for days.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 10/16/22  Oct 19 2022, 11:36:40 AM

Of all shows on Broadway, ITW has had by far the shortest # of weeks to build an advance. Even shows just starting previews have been selling tickets much earlier than ITW most recent extension.

Even more important is that even with a small window of time to build an advance, it had the 8th highest average ticket price of the 27 running shows, and was just a couple thousand less than the next 3 show averages.

To be hovering around the top 5 for average ticket price with such a t

This will have ramifications on the producing side of the business. I can see entire production staffs - and not just limited to performers having to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement at the time of hire. My husband and I have both had to sign them at various times in our careers. For Broadway it would be appropriate if it is given the formal name ‘Porkalob Agreement.’

I also see productions having to hire larger publicist staffs, with all performer interviews being monitored

Lea Michele as Fanny - Funny Girl  Oct 1 2022, 01:57:09 PM
Mary Tyler Moore received a special TONY™️ when she replaced Tom Conti in Whose Life Is It Anyway. Aren’t special awards hashed out by the committee during the yearly rules meeting for all the season’s shows?

Because Forum is the second funniest show to abbreviate that way. The first? ODPDMHYITCAIFSS. These are  Broadway World chat board distinctions that we shouldn’t retire. Not to mention that you obviously had two minutes to figure it out. What about this one?

This past weekend was the original closing date. Tickets for this week on just became available recently.

2016 - 2017 Touring Season  May 5 2015, 03:08:54 PM

There is a history of shows announcing national tours during Tony season that never end up materializing.

Forget The Heckler and The Spectator, The Statesman was already there  Apr 25 2015, 03:35:28 PM

Walter Kerr wrote the Sunday after opening reviews for most shows during the 70s in the NYT. Many producers hoped or dreaded what the 2nd opinion from the paper would be. He reviewed all the Sondheim/Prince shows, giving them mixed to negative reviews.

He was more charitable to very commercial shows during that time. He wrote an extremely favorable review of Seesaw -which Barnes panned-  that the producers used at the center of their print ads for the duration of its run.

The Heckler: Why I'm allergic to Stephen Sondheim  Mar 22 2015, 12:07:11 AM
While the article is certainly the equivalent of a 100 hits of Viagra for A8, I can't imagine much more activity than the twitch of his lower right eyelid. I hope that even such a small physiological response was as welcome as it was rare for our constant colleague.

BWW's been in bad shape for a couple of years. Every possible topic has been beaten to death. Sly wit and humor have disappeared, and the boards are left with people who post 1000s of times a year about virtually the same things over and over and over.

And to top it off, our current experts are teenagers who don't know sh*t, and oldsters who openly admit they don't remember anything of shows they saw decades ago.

Don't blame me for BWW's bad days.

A foolish 60 year old and 16 year old in agreement and in love with Broadway. The Great White Way is in worse shape than I thought.

Your lack of reading comprehension is only matched by your random posts confirming such.

Read the below 10 times. Think about each line as reading, and then check back:

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Works that over time are considered to be of exceptional quality by external critical and general popular opinion are inoculated from minority assessments.

The recent technology allowing people to endlessly express their little personal preferences have no

Good evening theater lovers. I left this conversation just as I had jokingly responded to Roxy.

I drove uptown to a dinner party in my brand spanking new Lexus Hybrid SUV (yes I'm old enough to have a license) and had a wonderful dinner with people older than 18 and 21 who were therefore of age to drink, have sex, and if worse came to worse, fight for our country.

Believe it or not there was not a single conversation that had any relationship to the arts. The only passing glan

There really needs to be a determination on all of these boards where "personal opinion" versus the generally accepted reputation of a work or performance is deemed to be exceptional.

I'm fine with a variety of opinions, but I think it's overly charitable to continually bow to tiny minority assessments within the margin of public and professional critical acclaim.
