DEATH BECOMES HER Previews Nov 3

I didn’t like this as much as I wanted—theme park fare, tbh.
I look forward to the day Jennifer Simard gets a role that truly showcases the depth of her brilliance. She’s one of a kind and never disappoints in whatever she’s in. I went for her and wasn’t disappointed on that front.

Anyone seen YOU WILL GET SICK? Nov 2

They could’ve kept this, to be honest. I respect the swing, but it just didn’t work. I found it to be basic and bland.
Loved the effects though. Very trippy. See this while high. I can’t imagine experiencing this any other way. lol

DOWNSTATE Previews (Playwrights Horizons) Oct 31

I can see the playwright winning another pulitzer. (If the eligibility window hasn't passed.) It's such an incredible, complex, challenging and moving piece. I feel lucky to have seen it.

It’s a thrilling masterpiece. A must see.
I read the play a couple of years ago and now hate I did. Go in blind. You won’t regret.

Your perception of a *character* in a show as unsavory is irrelevant to whether the *actor* who played the role deserved an award."
!!!!!
Thank you! So annoying. smh

The Brooks Atkinson Theatre gets a new name: The Lena Horne Theatre! Jun 10
2022, 12:23:38 AM
I think Lena is a cool choice. Unexpected, but great choice.
I think we should forget about Jujamcyn renaming another theater, and I think rightfully so. All their theaters are named after people I think were greatly influential to the industry and should stay attached. I’m saying this as a Black person fyi.
If another theater is renamed anywhere on Broadway, it could be the American Airlines (disgusting name that I think we can all agree should change), the New Amsterdam,

It’s already been announced that the Cort will be named after James Earl Jones when it reopens.

Mask Mandate to Be Separated by Seating Tiers at the 2022 Tony Awards?! Jun 8
2022, 08:55:53 AM
This is to signal to the world that Broadway won’t require masks anymore. They will come off in July. It’s that simple. I can’t see any other reason for this.
My issue though is when they do come off, ALL the theaters need to be aligned, unlike the vaxx checks. It’s annoying that some theaters are still doing that when most are not. (It seems the theaters with subscribers are keeping the act going smh)
I think this also means testing for actors will

I Miss Theatre Talk Jun 2
2022, 10:51:56 AM
I miss it too.
I went to the Theater Talk revival/goodbye-for-good show at the Lincoln Center performing arts library a few years ago (2019?) and loved it. So messy and intellectual at the same time. It helped me better understand Jesse and Ben as critics. Seeing them critique is very different than reading their words.

I thought it was only because I was up in the back of the balcony, but I’m reading it’s troublesome in the mezz as well. I’m taking my cousin to see this show for her first time this weekend: can anyone attest to whether the sound is just as troublesome from the orchestra as it is elsewhere? I’d like her (and myself) to be able to hear it better, but if it’s just as

I agree with the chorus of those who said the doc was “shapeless.” I’ve seen much better/in-depth.
And I agree that ignoring the London ‘18 revival was “egregious.”
A waste of time tbh.

It was cute and well done. Nothing riveting. But to see this from a Black writer was cool. It reminded me of a Bess Wohl play.

Company May 26

Bettyboy72 said: "There was an incident at Company tonight. Just as the second act was about to start a gentleman stood up, took his mask down and started pointing and yelling at the people next to him, “these people called me a f—g—t!” Then his mother stood up and said, “these people called my son a f——t!” The audience began to show their disapproval and shouting things like “that’s not ok!”, booing and some demanding for them to be removed.
As the accused parties were asked to stand by security someone from the balcony yelled, “you can’t remove someone for saying that.” Then the audience started booing her. She then said, “it’s not personal, but you can’t just throw people out for using a a word.”
Security then asked the mother and son as well as the couple in question to leave and they were all escorted out. I assume the mother and son were removed for pulling down their masks and yelling or because they’d have to file a report.
It was very upsetting and you could tell the cast heard all of it because when the curtain rose they all looked shell shocked but quickly bounced back.
Weird times indeed."
Interesting. I really hate the times we’re living in, most of the time.

Exception to the Rule at Roundabout May 26
2022, 07:28:19 AM
I wish this took the swings it continuously hinted toward. It had potential but never quite lived up to it.
It thinks it’s smarter and deeper than it really is. And if the show actually is that, it doesn’t allow the audience to connect to its brains and heart. Highfalutin theater is a no-no in 2022 imho, no matter how it’s packaged.
Excellent cast though.
