Dear Hunter Foster, Meredith Patterson, Chris Sieber and Anyone Else With I
 Jun 20 2010, 05:43:55 PM
I spoke to Scarlett on Friday night and she specifically addressed this and also sent me an e-mail later on that night with further thoughts on the topic. Check it out at the link below. The rest of the interview will be going up this week.

PS She is as smart, sharp and talented as she is beautiful.

Whatever you say... they are gonna need A LOT of Vaseline for that lens if that's how those actresses "read" (Meryl, 40s, really?)...

WOW! This is A LOT better than I thought it would look... Cher seems like she is having a BLAST!

The white satin number looks KILLER!

Is it just me or does this look like everything NINE tried to be but failed so miserably at?

FOLLIES - MOVIE CAST - Age-appropriate, please!
 Feb 3 2010, 05:17:54 PM
Sorry, but those choices are just not age-appropriate or even close which is the whole reason I started this thread as FOLLIES dream cast threads are always littered with ludicrously inappropriate casting, at least age-wise. Film always skews younger, to boot. Meryl is over 60 and even Vanessa is too old, or reads as such on film.

FOLLIES - MOVIE CAST - Age-appropriate, please!

I know there is one of these threads every few months but the thread over at ATC prompted me to really think this over and this is my IDEAL cast for FOLLIES were it to be filmed tomorrow, with all actors actually age-appropriate, I believe.

That being said, I'm sure many will take issue with a few of my choices, but I think this would be the perfect cast:

Robert Downey, Jr. as Buddy
Hugh Jackman as Ben
Nicole Kidman as Phyllis
Renee Z as Sally
Meryl Streep as

re: Jason Raize

His performance of "Levon", one of my favorite Elton John songs, was truly awesome. One of the best vocals of that night, and at THIS IS YOUR SONG nearly every performance was a thrilling highlight. He infused his words with so much feeling and emotion.

So sad.

Carolee as the next Diana in N2N
 Feb 3 2010, 02:38:09 PM
QUESTION MARK IN YOUR THREAD TITLE, PLEASE!

And there is no word yet if Carolee's role has been cut down significantly or completely from TAF - I'd say, if so she's gonna bounce. She'd be great in N2N but Sarah Uriarte Berry would be even more interesting.

Well, I really liked it a lot.

Into the Woods DVD question
 Feb 3 2010, 02:28:55 PM
Ok, Foley was the first Witch to play before a paying audience. Plus, there was no "Boom Crunch" or "Last Midnight" when Buckley did it, so the role was essentially just the rap and Rapunzel duet and most of the second act hadn't even been written. Usually the person to play the role in a workshop is not considered the first by most.

Or, of course, have it your way.

AMERICAN PSYCHO - Duncan Sheik's new musical
 Feb 3 2010, 02:25:12 PM
Comparing Duncan Sheik to Cole Porter? Now THAT'S a stretch. And as far as pop popularity goes, isn't "Barely Breathing" the only mainstream hit he's ever had? I can't think of any others.

Reznor at least had "Closer" and "Starf*ckers, Inc." as well as "Hurt", the Johnny Cash cover being one of the most elegiac and powerful recordings of all time.

Into the Woods DVD question

Also, Ellen Foley was the FIRST Witch, in the Old Globe tryout production out-of-town. The role then was much different, a studded leather wearing biker dyke with a predilection for lasciviously licking her lips. Very bizarre. Foley did eventually end up playing the role on Broadway (in the Bernadette mold, not the biker chick), and I believe she was the final Witch.

Great discussion (an exclusion or two notwithstanding)!

"Moron"? "Apples and oranges"? "Sarah Palin"?! THAT's the best you've got?! What a sad day it is on BWW when even Namo has a toothless bite. Zzzzz.

More boring and tired than Yoko Ono and Patti Smith COMBINED!

LOL! The cliche calling the credibility card?!

Now, THAT is funny!

P

P.S. Let me know when Sheik writes a score half as good as THE FRAGILE.

Good News For Finian's Rainbow

Yeah, "Irish milieu" would probably be a bit better or clearer, but it's probably fine the way it is. SO GLAD you read and enjoyed the review, Eris! I really put a lot of time and effort into my column so its nice to hear a kind word, particularly from a harsh critic like yourself!

Watch out on Thursday for SISTER ACT and PRISCILLA reviews, if you are so inclined!

Not everyone can be Yoko Ono. Or Patti Smith.

Or (insert literary equivalent here - probably Thomas Wolfe or John Irving).

SUCH a cliche... in every way...

If you're gonna quote, at least quote the full CLAUSE if not the whole sentence, gutter trash.

"...though I realize he does write pulp trash on occasion..."

Though why give a care about syntax or sentence structure when you can just be a bitter old crab and misquote whoever whenever?!

Zzzz. Try A LOT harder next time, Namo.
