Jamie Lloyd-helmed EVITA revival to play the London Palladium in 2025
 Sep 7 2025, 10:00:59 PM

One additional thought regarding a potential Broadway transfer, since others are speculating: It’s possible they are considering the St. James Theatre as the best option, but are choosing to stay quiet in case “Queen of Versailles” doesn’t perform well.

My feeling is that it's all being done to give the consumers what they want in the quickest way possible, even if that means going on the cheap, or a guitar player whose schedule didn't align, or not as much studio time, whatever the casemay be, especially before the show closes. I'm sure they were lucky to get this out on the last "new music release day" before the closing. Plus, it wasn't given the same 7" vinyl treament that DCFMA had which means they probably were not anticipating this so early or at all... the only reason this song specifically blew up was because of TikTok and social media leaking footage from the show, so they're giving us an official thing.

This latest single was recorded in a studio and it appears this highlights album was recorded live during a performance, which probably takes longer to master and produce, which could be why we are getting only some tracks and not the whole thing because people want something sooner rather than later and the whole transfer is rumored to beup in the air. I agree with theatrejunkie007 that they may end up working on a completed album to release if the show decides or is able to transfer. Remember that huge gap of time we had between the Sunset album announcement and its actual release? It was announced in May 2024, and in August they announced their October release date. Reminded me of when we waited just as long, if not longer, for the Sunday album with Jake and Annaleigh. haha.

Sorry for my Friday spew of words and thoughts no one asked for! haha.
"

Just one clarification - the album was announced in March of 2024 for the October release.  Which really kind of lost the momentum I think they were hoping for.  At least with this, there was a single release today to go along with the announcement.  Hopefully if/when it comes to NY a full recording will coincide with that.

Ben Brantley’s review was a straight up love letter, it reads like he was weeping tears of joy watching Glenn. He was a hell of a lot more enthused about Ms. Close’s performance in sunset than he ever was Bette Midler’s ham and cheese performance in Hello Dolly that same season. Glenn deserved the Tony that year, not Bette&

If it doesn't transfer to Broadway (which would be a surprise to me tbh) it would be more about the economics than this supposed lack of confusion about the story of Evita.  Which seems overblown.  The show is what close to 50 years old... the stage production can't add a lot to a sung-through score like this that would dramatically change things.  No offence, but if people don't understand the story, they're not listening and paying attention closely enough.&nb

No tax credit and raising for shows this season.

Considering how bleak things turned for so many shows this year, to me it's a bit shocking that Chess is moving forward.  I mean, I've always loved the score, but it's hard to believe that Evita might not come out of concerns over finances but Chess is already selling tickets.

A big mistake is to open a star driven musical in the fall, the fall is more suited to open runs not star driven, where star driven shows are best in the spring near to the Tony Awards.

Maybe Happy Ending that could've posted early closing notices, winning the Tony Award certainly improved their box office.

I'm pretty sure that the weekly running costs for Sunset was publicly disclosed at $950,000 a week.  The reddit/new writer for BWW (whose name escapes me right now) had speculated that plus fees, etc. that it was about $1.3- 1.4 million a week total and the rest would've gone to paying the investment back.  When I was doing the math, I was on the lower end, imagining it was  1.2/1.3 and with the final grossses got to them returning $11 million/$12 million (and thought e

Income streams also aren't finished. ATG could tour it (without a star), as they're doing with PARADE, and that will return a royalty that will generate small amounts of revenue. If there's a film sale, that

Binau - thanks for this extensive review.  I've been happy for Rachel post- Snow White to have enjoyed such a phenomenal reception.&nbs

I'm sure if they did/do recoup they'd announce that. Just by the bits and pieces I've read here and there I'm guessing it was somewhere in the $12-14 million area of recouping the $15 million it cost to capitalize.
"

The capitalization was only $15M? That is MUCH lower than I though

I'd much rather it be the rumor of a 3 week return in London where they film a pro-shot of this production with the original cast...but a tour would be good news too

She kept it together, cleared her throat a couple of times, and then she held that note for no less than 15 seconds, to which the entire orchestra leapt to their feet. A standi

Well ALW also has two new works in the pipeline.  The Illusionist (directed by Jamie Lloyd) making the World Premiere in London in 2026 and an unannounced second project.  So I could see him wanting to get Evita and Cats back in NY this season.  I'd be surprised if they're thinking an "open-ended" run for Evita.  And Maquerade will be a unique, off-Broadway presence.
