I’m kind of shocked they’re closing in July
wouldn’t it make sense to get the whole summer in and close around Labor Day?
Any idea who the final cast might be?
24 previews and 2,265 regular performances.
Will be the 36th-longest running show in Broadway history.

I think we need more people to stay a new thread about this. Only 4 at the moment
I guess the can-can can’t?

The can-can did and recouped in 2022.
Congratulations to all involved in this incredibly vibrant, stunning looking production. It has made it's money on Broadway, on tour, and beyond. Bravo!

If I was a betting man, this gives them a long runway to drum up business and potentially extend “by popular demand”, but I also think there would be an ATG-affiliated show at the ready to come in during the early fall.
Either way, it’s been quite a long time coming. I’ve noted a marked decline in quality with replacement casting and an overall feeling of fatigue. Considering the pandemic could’ve killed them off entirely like many other shows, the fact that it will have come back for almost a full 5 years from that is pretty good.
Side Note: The final performance is not on sale/“sold out”, so save yourself the keystrokes.
True! I wonder if the tour is also closing up this summer? None of the presenters that have announced, so far, have included it in their seasons(as an add-on or otherwise). When the tour came through chicago last spring my biggest takeaway was how dated the music already was. Like, there were several moments where I thought, “Pink Pony Club would slap for this scene.”
As someone who’s not interested in seeing this as the original film wasn’t my cup of tea, I’m not sad to see it go.

Moulin Rouge’s summer sales were never gangbusters after the pandemic closure. It’s not really a show tourists can take their kids to when there’s Hamilton Disney and Wicked always with a ticket available. Not to say their sales plummet, but they’re not a tourist smash the way the family shows are.
Money is absolutely on Evita coming in on the timeline Sunset did.
Considering how much this costs (and what must be an astronomical licensing fee for all the songs it uses), it’s remarkable it’s had such a successful run.
Would love to see this come back in 10 years with an updated song list.
And somehow, this is the great gastby’s fault.

I might be making this up but I’m certain Baz Luhrmann said something about the show updating the music every few years, which obviously never materialised.
If you were to tell me that KINKY BOOTS will have run longer than this did back in November 2018 (when ROUGE! was officially announced for Broadway), I would have said you were crazy.

I’ve seen this twice and had two very different experiences with it. I was pretty turned off the first time I saw it, probably because I was going in with a musical theater mindset. Especially the first act, the song choices were random, and it all just felt like a show riding on glitz and vibes. Knowing this the second time I saw it last summer, I loved it. I love the choreo, costumes, sets, “Your Song,” the rehearsal number in the second act. Its truly a wonderful show to just relax and have fun.
My bet is on everyone's favorite cuddly British bear to take up residence at the Al Hirschfeld this fall.

Evita is not coming to Broadway. The costs will be astronomical and there’s concern about Zeglers safety doing the balcony scene.
Glad it recouped. I want to Timbers to keep getting work. Love how he directs and knows how to do spectacle.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't, honestly. With the state of the Country declining so rapidly, and the whole public assassination last Fall, the balcony scene would need to be cut. Security would be insane for her as well. Sunset was a financial failure anyways, so I doubt they're in a hurry.
Paddington on the other hand? Yesssss!

New York needs a big musical to get excited by, it’s been a while.
