Winter is coming.
Coming off a sturdy Thanksgiving holiday, most shows predictably dropped. Still, we've just crossed the billion-dollar threshold in total gross this season.
Happy trails to "Mama Cheryl" Porter, who finished up a spirited run in & JULIET on Sunday.
As expected, JUST IN TIME jumps right back up with a healthy Groff, and HAMILTON now trails HARRY POTTER without Odom.
Impressive for MARJORIE PRIME to rise last week with all the press comps + low average ticket price leading up to last night's opening.
Shocked but not surprised QOV moved up their date. It’s tragic that it will be all over before Christmas. Could it be possible that Cheno’s injury/recovery would play a factor in this?
I hope they will all get paid for the two weeks that were cancelled.

What injury????
You asked in the other thread and got an answer, girl.
She fell backstage on Thursday night and injured her neck and knees to an unspecified degree - she was out Friday and both shows Saturday and Sherie got a few more shows under her belt.
I don't think the return of Beetlejuice is paying off the way the producers were hoping it would.

Beetlejuice loves top flop on Broadway
Not bad numbers for the post-Thanksgiving week.
Stranger Things definitely looking stronger now and probably will through New Year's. I'm not sure it will sustain itself as well after that.

baffling that they extended Liberation with those numbers
Kristin sure seems accident-prone at work. Hope she’ll recover from this one. I think I saw her say pretty recently she still has occasional issues from when that light rig fell on her head at The Good Wife.

I’ve been saying this for weeks, but it seems like there has to be some kind of deal in place to keep it running and/or the weekly nut is much cheaper than we think. (I can’t imagine any of the actresses are making much more than Equity minimum).

From your post in the other thread. I'm assuming you already know the answer.

It was doomed from the beginning and watching them not even try to course correct throughout this has to be frustrating for everyone involved. I wonder if Kristin’s injury just sealed the deal for an even earlier closure.

Beetlejuice is proof that not every touring production will benefit from a stop on the great while way. I have to imagine they are really regretting the stop. Have to be losing a lot of money. I have to say that I expected this. Unlike The Wiz and Mamma Mia, this is not an iconic feel-good musical; Beetlejuice, even at its most successful, was more of a cult show. Live and learn.
Is anyone surprised that Chess did only 92% of capacity last week. I know the gross was great, but I would have expected it to be closer to 97 - 98%. Makes me start to wonder if this is going to end up like the shows that start off really strong, but peter out after 6 months of so, e.g., Follies revival, Finding Neverland, Company revival.
I have to admit that I thought KC might have used her injuries as an excuse not to return to QOV. Must be really depressing for her. At least SRS seems to be getting very good feedback for a show for which she was basically a hired hand.
The Outsiders average ticket price ($157) is back to being very solid, after their rough patch. I am thinking that this is still going to be around this time next year, which I think is great.
Disappointed that Two Strangers is not doing well.
Unless Lost Boys is great, is it possible that the Tony's will ship Best Musical next year and change the rules so there can be more revival nominees, assuming Rocky Horror gets good reviews.
Finally, I honestly expected Oedipus to become a sellout, given the leads, the limited engagement, and the short run.

Its hard to imagine Chess making it through the tough winter months. The diehard fans of Chess have all been there and I'm sure through New Years it will do good business, but once January kicks in,I don't think it has the legs it needs to keep running.

re Chess, Nik was out for an event he was singing at last Wednesday evening and it was advised on Telecharge for several weeks and they sold about 1/3 less tickets that night. That would explain the drop.
Lea is out 14th and 16th for the start of Hanukkah and only about 1/3 of tickets are sold for those two performances ( performances either side of her absence are selling very well) so expect that week to drop significantly.
For such a star driven show it will make a difference when they are out, especially Lea and Aaron . That's not a go at Nik who's fantastic hes just not as big a star ( yet) but even him being out made a difference last week.

While I agree with you about Beetlejuice, I find there is a bit of handwringing about the others. To go point-by-point:
1) In this state of affairs, 92% capacity is pretty damn good. Even then, it’s not really that number that matters so much as the gross and the average ticket price. Just last week, they broke the Imperial Theatre box office record for the second time. Even if the show has a nut of $1M per week (which seems a bit of a high estimate), they are smashing expectations. Not bad for a musical that flopped hard 40 years ago.
2) I don’t doubt that this might have something to do with it, but wasn’t the driving factor. Neck injuries are no joke (currently in the midst of one myself), and so the producers maybe looked at how dismal the future looked even after announcing closing and, with their leading lady possibly needing to tap out for select performances, cut their losses even further.
3) TWO STRANGERS is actually doing fine for right now, though precarious. Again, even if the theatre isn’t fully packed, they are paying a high enough price for tickets. Their nut, as I previously mentioned in last weeks thread referencing Forbes, is $480,577 per week, making it the cheapest run new musical post-COVID.
4) Re: The Tonys - not likely. Please see page 10 of the current rules
5) OEDIPUS has been a sellout hit. Lesley Manville’s unscheduled absences last Friday-Sunday may have just made a small impact.
"hat's not a go at Nik who's fantastic hes just not as big a star ( yet) but even him being out made a difference last week."
Can we be sure of that? An earlier suggestion was that grosses are always a little depressed this time of year. Did anyone see a sizeable return line at Chess last week? Even though the numbers are only slightly depressed at that size over only a few performances you would definitely see a line of people getting a refund it doesn't take many.

"
I'm not talking about people getting refunds when they find out someone is out, I'm talking about tickets not being sold because people knew he would be out. That he would be out was announced a few weeks ago and less tickets were sold because of it, he wasn't randomly out. There's a pop up at Telecharge on the dates people are out which is why sales are way down for the two performances Lea is out on Sunday and next Tuesday.
I was looking at Telecharge a couple of hours before the performance Nik was out and about 1/3 of seats were not sold.
This is different to people going for refunds when they find out someone is out sick.
All the other performances that week, including the Wednesday matinee the same day were very close to sold out or sold out.
Ok so just so I understand were all of his absences actually pre scheduled?

He was only out 1 performance, Wednesday night. Chess only dropped $111K from the previous week which was 5%. if , as i noted the audience for that one performance was down by one third as i saw not that long before the performance ( and the matinee was close to sell out) then that would be around 75% of the box office they dropped last week so yes, his absence made a lot of that drop last week.
This week's box office will likely be lower again due to Lea's absences next week given sales are way down for Sunday and the same will apply for next Tuesday as well when shes out as those sales are way down too given its clearly marked shes out. Hannah is apparently also out on Tuesday but as shes not above the line its not advised she just put it on her IG stories.
Thanks that is good you paid attention to it so we can be sure I agree then from what you described it does look like there is a little bit of an impact which is cool for Nicholas C.

How come The Outsiders have no recouped yet?
Same for Hell's Kitchen and The Great Gatsby, but in a lesser degree.
