TIM RICE and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER‘s legendary EVITA returns to the West End, reimagined by the visionary award-winning director JAMIE LLOYD.
Featuring an iconic score including Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, Oh What A Circus, Another Suitcase in Another Hall, and the Oscar-winning You Must Love Me, EVITA isproduced by Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals and The Jamie Lloyd Company.
Fuelled by ambition and passion, Eva Perón rose from poverty to become the most powerful woman in Latin America. A symbol of hope to many Argentines, her star shone brightly as she captured the nation’s heart and divided its soul.
EVITA arrives at The London Palladium for 12 weeks only from 14 June 2025.
I’m curious if they have a really big name lined up for this, like they got for “Hello Dolly” last year. They do need it for that gargantuan theatre. I will say though, of all the Jamie Lloyd productions I’ve seen, this was the one that worked the best for me, in no small part (I'm sure) thanks to Samantha Pauly’s brilliant Eva.

The current rumour is that it will be Ariana DeBose which would be interesting....

Can DeBose sing it? I've always thought of her as more of a dancer.

She is definitely more of a dancer, but she keeps trying to be more of a singer.
Is DeBose enough of a name in the UK to sell out a 2,305 seat theatre for three months at the prices they’re sure to charge? I don’t even think she could pull that off here in the states.
NY is known for its musicals and London is knows for its plays, so while I’ve found the musical talent in London to be good, they’re not as great as NY. She’ll fit right it, get raves and try to bring it over here to no avail. Calling it now.

You are aware that EVITA was a British musical before it came to Broadway?
Curious what you are basing your assessment of London musical theatre actors on. I think we have some pretty amazing leading men and women who can more than hold their own and that is nothing new.
In any event, I don't they will need to cast a name. The show can sell on its own merit. Nobody knew who Samantha Pauly was yet it was pretty much sold out the entire summer when this production played at Regent's Park.

Something tells me Patti would rather scan tickets at Hell's Kitchen.

I agree. And I think this makes Brits more forgiving of less-than-perfect singing. I think they focus more on the acting performance of a number than the pure-tone quality of it. In fact, I think even with Lloyd Webber shows (Patti vs. Glenn being an obvious exception) the vocals are generally better on the American cast recordings.
