TIM RICE and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER‘s legendary EVITA returns to the West End, reimagined by the visionary award-winning director JAMIE LLOYD.
Featuring an iconic score including Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, Oh What A Circus, Another Suitcase in Another Hall, and the Oscar-winning You Must Love Me, EVITA is produced by Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals and The Jamie Lloyd Company.
Fuelled by ambition and passion, Eva Perón rose from poverty to become the most powerful woman in Latin America. A symbol of hope to many Argentines, her star shone brightly as she captured the nation’s heart and divided its soul.
EVITA arrives at The London Palladium for 12 weeks only from 14 June 2025.
Must be painful to perform Evita with no shoes.
What is with Jaime Lloyd picking these huge venues for his minimalist production style?
I’m admittedly curious, but this seems about as weird as GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS in the Palace
I’m curious if they have a really big name lined up for this, like they got for “Hello Dolly” last year. They do need it for that gargantuan theatre. I will say though, of all the Jamie Lloyd productions I’ve seen, this was the one that worked the best for me, in no small part (I'm sure) thanks to Samantha Pauly’s brilliant Eva.
I thought the Orcale said it’s going to be Auli’i (sorry if I typed her name in wrong) playing Evita

The current rumour is that it will be Ariana DeBose which would be interesting....

Can DeBose sing it? I've always thought of her as more of a dancer.

She is definitely more of a dancer, but she keeps trying to be more of a singer.
Am I the only one who finds Ariana DeBose…meh
Is DeBose enough of a name in the UK to sell out a 2,305 seat theatre for three months at the prices they’re sure to charge? I don’t even think she could pull that off here in the states.
Hire Patti and make it a high concept memory piece.
NY is known for its musicals and London is knows for its plays, so while I’ve found the musical talent in London to be good, they’re not as great as NY. She’ll fit right it, get raves and try to bring it over here to no avail. Calling it now.
I'm all for an age blind production of Evita with Patti and Mandy. Idgaf how old they are. I'd sell important organs to see them.

You are aware that EVITA was a British musical before it came to Broadway?
Curious what you are basing your assessment of London musical theatre actors on. I think we have some pretty amazing leading men and women who can more than hold their own and that is nothing new.
In any event, I don't they will need to cast a name. The show can sell on its own merit. Nobody knew who Samantha Pauly was yet it was pretty much sold out the entire summer when this production played at Regent's Park.

What I said about London plays vs. musicals is a pretty common assessment. Obviously there are good ones that have come over, but look at the history of musicals. ALW is an exception to the rule. There are lots of articles and books about it: https://amp.theguardian.com/stage/theatreblog/2011/feb/23/americans-british-musicals-west-end-broadway
I didn’t say performers in British musicals are bad at all. They’re not. I’ve just found the talent stronger in NY.

Something tells me Patti would rather scan tickets at Hell's Kitchen.

I want this so bad, I'm almost willing to believe in Santa Claus again so I can ask for it.

I agree. And I think this makes Brits more forgiving of less-than-perfect singing. I think they focus more on the acting performance of a number than the pure-tone quality of it. In fact, I think even with Lloyd Webber shows (Patti vs. Glenn being an obvious exception) the vocals are generally better on the American cast recordings.
At last night's Golden Globes, Ariana DeBose revealed that she is in talks to star.

If that happens, she could use a return to the theatre given how her film career as of late hasn't been going so good.
Recent history proven that she doesn't have the wattage to be a film draw. She really needs to get into TV or theatre. But not Evita. She could barely keep her breath during her famous BAFTA rap.
Remember that DeBose had said before that she would not be returning to host the Tonys after last year, and this is why.
I think she’ll be quite good in this and I’m looking forward to it arriving in New York next year.

Don't think she could sing this even on her best day.
I wish the audience well.

Maybe it won't be the original keys. She can certainly sing it as well as Madonna.

Three.
She was cringe during her bit at the globes last night.
