I was let down by this Gypsy as well. I love Audra. But I much prefer Tyne Daly's mother earth and Patti's bravura. I am in agreement with the previous poster who would give it to Jennifer Simard. But I know that is not going to happen. And yes; Audras win will always have a asterix to it for the small informed broadway niche. And who cares about the masses. They don't care about the Tonys period.

If I were her I would lay low and come out swinging in a few months. And I would swing very hard. We will see if anyone brings it up on Sunday. They would be wise to keep their mouths shuts as well. That open letter really made the so called theater community look ridiculous. The Megyn Kelly reading of the open letter really hits it on the nail. ( and yes.. I think she is a right wing lunatic.. but take a look).

So something interesting that I heard last night from Bryan The Business Analyst ( a theater business analyst on the Tok). I have not fact checked any of this. Apparently when Audra won her Tony for Porgy and Bess the production and her performance where not exactly well received. The production took many liberties and was in fact retitled Gershwins Porgy and Bess. Sondheim wrote a editorial for the times blasting the production. Apparently the theater community
