Erivo will lead one-woman DRACULA in West End from DORIAN GRAY team
 May 13 2025, 12:29:03 PM

When I saw Dorian Gray I felt Sarah Snook was obviously doing remarkable work (and I almost never like 1 person plays 20 parts shows) but felt "the show" was watching a TikTok video for two hours and drove me crazy. Trying not to prejudge this but this "throw a filter and just watch a screen" isn't for me. I don't understand what is essentially watching a movie in live theatre.

PIRATES! THE PENZANCE MUSICAL Previews
 Apr 17 2025, 04:56:38 PM

I got to see the first preview and overall liked it. I'm not a G&S purist but I know Pirates (the Papp version especially). I just kept wondering why there were so many lyric changes that changed nothing. I understand updating a reference (sat a gee is now sang a G...fine!) but they'd change lyrics and just rephrase them basically changing "and I put on a sweater" to "My sweater is cozy when it's on" so I just couldn't figure out the why of it all unles

Another stage door horror story with a forced kiss?!?
 Apr 11 2025, 01:49:10 PM

Social media itself is to blame as well since it only makes the parasocial relationship stronger. If you follow a performer and see what they're doing day to day, what music they like, their thoughts on tv shows, etc you feel like you know them and have a ton in common "I love coffee and The White Lotus tooooooo!" Not to mention if the performer ever innocently responds to a comment or DM it's essentially telling some of these fans they're friends/they know me and embold

I don't think it's intent is run without her though. The point of the production is her like Music Man was about Hugh and Sutton.

This can be true they plan for it to run at a certain ATP within a contracted period and break even and that's smart but producers WERE making calls pretty much the entire year to get Justin Timberlake, Seth McFarland, Jimmy

Does anyone know the run time? I can't seem to find it on the website.

Stereo... closing? General question.
 Jan 9 2025, 12:56:53 PM

I'd say their advances weren't good enough to spend the $$ on recasting, rehearsing, new promo, etc etc. It broke even and that's AMAZING for any production let alone a play with no big names that's 3 hours long.

It's also possible they can use the set and costumes on the tour and it's better to close up the slow money making on broadway vs spending another million (made up that number someone else can estimate what the set costs) on the tour's budget wh

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 1/5/25
 Jan 7 2025, 03:24:36 PM

I never said it was a flop house and that ZERO shows have ever recouped but out of the 3 shows that have played there since it reopened two closed pretty quickly and I can see the Shuberts giving them a break in the rent just to let it close its run to avoid "and another one!" Obviously this won't recoup either but at least there aren't going to be headlines about it.

I actually don't think any theatre is a flop house because we all know if a big star is in a

I have to assume Ephron and Margulies must be giving up/donating their salary and are playing to empty houses to avoid the bad press/career hit of having a play close early. Even though it's not a big expensive show there's no way they're even close to mee

50th Anniversary Revival of A CHORUS LINE still on track for 202

Jordan Catalano said: "I saw that revival so many times. My favorite thing is when we would do standing room, Mario Lopez would be in back of us, working out on the stairs going up to the mezz. He’d be grunting and whatnot doing his sit-ups and pushups for most of the show and while it was distracting, it was also hilarious."

He would also stand in the lobby and make phone calls at full volume and it only added to his hilarity.

Jon M. Chu will direct a movie-musical adaptation of JOSEPH...DREAMCOAT for Amazon
 Dec 26 2024, 12:02:03 PM

Chu understands the necessity of extremely good singers who understand the art form of telling a story through song. A note is an actor too. So I think it's unlikely that this will happen."

Does he? Tell that to Michelle Yeoh, Marissa Bode, and Melissa Barrera.

I'm always fascinated that they decidedly haven't worked together on any new shows/projects for allege "reasons" but they'll hammer out some new songs for their old work.

Whoopi Goldberg in ANNIE at MSG?

ACL2006 said: "I wouldn't expect much from Whoopi in this. She even said she doesn't need to sing this role. When I saw her in Xanadu in 2008, she could barely keep up and remember her lines. Now 16 years later, all I would expect from her is to stand in one spot and say her lines."

I worked at Xanadu and as LOVELY as she was to every person in the building she actually kept getting worse and ended up carrying note cards with the lines on them at one point (a

FLOYD COLLINS to be given Broadway revival by Lincoln Center
 Nov 21 2024, 01:40:27 PM

He's going to sound great but his fans aren't great audience members. I don't need 800 girls screaming every time he does anything like they've done through...everything I've ever seen him in.

THE ROOMMATE Previews

I actually think the audience is behaving so poorly is because of the clunky direction with SO MANY "cut to black, 3 minute scene change that lets the audience start talking to each other, lights up new scene" moments.

This was...well, fine. I was amused enough at some moments and once I realized Patti was channeling Bea Arthur sitcom acting I leaned into what she was doing more. I did start picturing Anette playing a less sitcom-y sleeker and cooler character. I do think

But just like they revamped shrek and thoroughly modern Millie, I think they could go back in and write new jokes for avenue q that takes place in modern times. Theres so much to make fun of in the woke/maga times we’re living in"

Um, I...very much doubt the creatives would work together at

Alternate Universe: Patti LuPone in Sam Mendes' Gypsy (2003)
 Aug 4 2024, 12:01:12 AM

Several people have said (David Burtka being the most vocal) that what Mendes conceived/directed originally was not what ended up on Broadway because Laurents had screaming fight issues with some of the choices but a lot of those choices ended up in his Patti production.

This is the only place I can see them doing the "scaled down/tour" version they've basically wanted to bring to broadway since Prince passed because Prince's standards were expensive (just look at the original Christine Masquarade costume vs what's in the West
