I am oddly fascinated to discover exactly what kind of show would please the unpleasables here on BwayWld. It really seems like everything in the vast vast world of musical theatre has SOMEone who hates it venomously. I would pity poor Richard and Oscar if they had to live in the musical theatre world we've created for ourselves. Incidentally, Rock of Ages is a very well constructed VERY old-fashioned musical comedy, all the Golden Age tropes are there. It just happens to be told with W

A brilliant move to close now, before the transfer. Why suffer through the dead winter months when you can just keep the demand high and come back strong in the spring? Ingenious. Like it or not, this show is stupid fun. Revolutionary theatre? No. But fun, you bet your ass.

Just to put out the word... I know the folks at the Broadway League would LOOOOOVE copies of photos like these. If for nothing other than to expand the quality of the Internet Broadway Database (IBDB.COM) So donate, let your snap-shots become a part of Broadway history.

Lizzy, two things I will respond to: 1. I'm on the production staff. And I've heard nada. Course I'm taking some well-earned down time outta town, so I'm kinda out of the loop. After reading Isherwood's article today about seeking escapism in New York theatre, you'd think ROA would be top of the docket, but what? He'd rather go see Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Does that give us confidence in his taste? I'm only hoping when the Times does come that they can't deny the power of all the joy on

You need to compare this to pirated DVDs for sale on he subway, or street corner, or in Asia, or even online movie downloads. Or even the RIAA hunting down college kids for illegally downloading music. Yes, we writers WANT our work to be seen, appreciated, LOVED, even. But an entire musical is a different story. Also, royalties don't only go to writers. The proceeds from these shows employ hundreds, if not THOUSANDS of theatre professionals. Do kids in Latin America have the right to steal their

re: where is the conductor in A chorus line? Jul 17

Actually, it's not unusual at all. Many shows do not use TV monitors on the rail. Actually, at TARZAN, I learned that Natasha Katz, the lighting designer, insists on no monitors, as it changes the ambient light inside the house.

This depends... Beauty and the Beast is a great musical. The show at the Lunt-Fontanne, however, is a cheap cartoon.
