A fond farewell to Tarzan...

My best wishes to the cast after their closing perfomance tomorrow. I only hope you all are cast in new produtions quickly with better material.
That comes from the bottom of my heart, really.
And Disney, you did a good thing closing the show. Now please don't dumb down Doug Wright and Alan Menken for us like you've done for every other talented person you've hired to do your shows.
Warmest regards,
jv92
Edited because I figured I'd give Josh Strickland a break.

Wait, so you give that nice statement to everyone but Strickland because you think he sucked?
Oh, boy...

Yes. He was awful. It was perhaps THE worst performance I saw in a musical. Ever.
Too harsh maybe?
#3re: A fond farewell to Tarzan...
Posted: 7/8/07 at 12:43amUh, yes, I would say it's too harsh!

Posted: 7/8/07 at 12:43amYou obviously didn't see Delta Burke in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE.

Fixed it. I now include Mr. Strickland in that little "Best wishes to you all" note. I don't want another jv92 controversey.
I did not have the "pleasure" of seeing Ms. Burke in Millie. After seeing the show in preivews, I realized once was enough. I'm assuming she wasn't very good.

That sounded neither warm nor fond. Did you actually think there was something worthwhile in the show or are you just trying to appease all the Tarzan-Haters?
btw, did you ever see Craig Bierko in Thou Shalt Not?

Well, it's not fond, really. But I do wish them well. It wasn't their fault the material was so bad.
Stop giving me these various bad performances and asking me if I saw them. I don't care. I probably did. No one compares to Mr. Strickland, but I'll refrain from criticizing tonight.

Posted: 7/8/07 at 12:49amActually there was the entire cast of Urban Cowboy too...
#9re: A fond farewell to Tarzan...

Oh, I didn't catch Urban Cowboy. Friends told me I'd be on suicide alert by the end.
I will say one rather nasty thing about Tarzan. I hope Phil Collins never comes back to Broadway again. Ever.
Don't bash me. He has a carreer and lots of money. The chorus kids in Tarzan don't and have a lot more bussiness working on Broadway than he does. A lot more.

I missed it but it must have been fun... like a car wreck you can't help but watch?
Melanie Griffith in Chicago?

Posted: 7/8/07 at 12:52amI really loved Beauty & the Beast but I probably won't be able to see Tarzan tomorrow. Question to whoever loved Beauty & the Beast: Am I missing much by not seeing Tarzan? (I want to ask someone who loved Beauty since I want someone who has the same "taste" in theater as me to respond.)

Miss Griffith was awful, but...
not as bad as Mr. Strtickland. Sorry. At least she had that wonderful Kander and Ebb score to... mangle. But still.
I did not "love" Beauty and the Beast, but the charming Menken/Ashman score always gives me pleasure, so I suppose I'm a fan of it. You're not missing anything by not seeing Tarzan. Believe me.

Posted: 7/8/07 at 12:55amThis depends... Beauty and the Beast is a great musical. The show at the Lunt-Fontanne, however, is a cheap cartoon.

Posted: 7/8/07 at 12:56amI don't know about that JV92. Sitting directly under Strickland while he flies over you is a strange kind of thrill some people here might not want to miss.

Yes. But the score's a good enough reason to go...but...well...
Now that they put Human Again in the film, I guess you're better off renting the movie. Some of the Menken/Rice songs are not up to par with the others.
And as for that "strange sort of thrill"-
I didn't find it particularly thrilling. But some may. I also prefer to judge performers on their singing and acting, and he did not impress me in those departments.

Not to mention Chester Gregory II's Terk, hanging upside-down...
Hell, even Jane gets down to her undies

#21re: A fond farewell to Tarzan...
Posted: 7/8/07 at 12:59amThe book and score completely wipe away any magic in seeing the cast half nude.
