re: Riedel: CAT revival selling well, despite an investor pulling out; Sutt
 May 18 2008, 12:46:46 PM
CATS has been trashed from day one. I saw it even after reading the reviews and enjoyed the production. Ms. Rose was truly the only memorable performance of the play. The celebrity lineup has played a major part in its success. The all black cast has has played a part in the large turnout of African- American crowd. Enjoyable:yes. Award worthy:no. I would have paid to see James Earl Jones in a one man show of this production. A show does not have to be award winning to be profitable or worth see

Very nice theater. We had family members in several locations due to lack of availability
for date we were there. Everyone had good view and enjoyed the show much more than expected.

Seats you have picked I believe will be very nice and have a good view.

Go, sit back and enjoy.

I agree with LePetiteFromage on Tamyra. Good, but could have had more of an edge in acting. Looked like someone acting instead of someone actually being the part. The Roger my daughter was comparing to was Adam Pascal from movie. Correct me if I am wrong on that. She liked his Roger better than Declans Roger.

Everyones a critic!!!

As I said great night, just trying to give unprofessional opinion or observation on great evening.

LePetiteFrommage: Tamyra Gray was Mimi. I agree with your assessment. Declan Bennett was Roger. We have not seen other casts to compare with. As I said we have just seen the movie. Basing comments only on how they played out that night. Overall a very enjoyable night. Comments suggested by posters were very helpful and right on the mark. I imagine these type of posts get old to regular posters but they are extremely helpful for those who get to NY maybe once or twice a year or maybe once or tw

Went to Rent Monday night. Glad we followed everyones advice. Seats were left mezzanine row O. Well pleased with seats. Could have used more leg room?? Really liked the size and atmosphere of the theater though. Large enthusiastic crowd. Talked to several people and we were apparently one of few who had not seen play before. Front right mezzanine had a small group who would stand and applaud, cheer etc. Is that typical for Rent? Satisfied with actors. Had questioned would change of cast members

Went to Cat Saturday night. Whole family enjoyed it. I would agree with some of the criticism about certain parts though. Anika Noni Rose's performance in Act 1 was worth the effort. Everyone around us seemed to enjoy the show. A lot of the allure by some seemed to be the all-star cast though. Still glad we got to see this presentation of a classic story.

Saw Wicked tonight. Daughter and wife sat on row d 22 and e 22. Both said were great seats but were partially obstructed on some of play on that side. Try for seats more centered. We got tickets late and had to split up for best seats available. I sat in mezzanine. But view was fine. I feel center mezzanine would be great for all the scenery.

Waltero: Saw the show Wicked tonight and sat in the front mezzanine row d. Very nice theater with a lot of leg room for someone of my height. View was very nice. Daughter and her husband sat in rear mezzanine and said their view was fine also. I do not believe you will have any problems. Enjoy.

hermoinejuliet: I hope it is a great show not only for a 20 something but for someone who has a 20 something daughter.

I may not be a 20 something anymore but I love the songs also.

We also saw the Drowsy Chaperone when it opened and we both loved it.

Pre Bob Saget.

LePetiteFromage: Bad choice of words on my part. I meant the seats were near the center orchestra seats and not near the wall.

LePetiteFromage: Only tickets left were about 2/3 back in left orchestra near center aisle. I think they will be fine.

Went ahead and got tickets for Rent after listening to everyones advice.
It was late at night and somehow when I got up the next day to print tickets, I noticed it was for a night I would not be in New York. Made several calls and got the situation corrected.

Thanks for everyones help. I will let you know how it goes after we see the show. Daughter really excited about seeing show. Gave her several other options that night and she chose this one.

If you go into the play with no pre-conceived notions about the play, is it enjoyable?

Everyone who dislikes the production seem to be looking for something particular going in.

How do you feel the critics will receive this production?

Does it matter where you sit in this theater? Mezzanine vs. Orchestra?

Is it worth a chance on TKTS?

Just found out that Rent will be near our hometown in a tour date. I still feel from what everyone has said Rent is best choice but would Broadway version be better or would we be better to see another play in NY and see Rent locally? My wife had seen Cats in NY and saw it locally. Said Broadway version much better.

Have enjoyed comments. Thanks!

Only plays on Monday nights that we haven't seen are Chicago, Cry Baby ,Gypsy, and Rent. This is the only night we have open. As I said she loves the movie Rent and the soundtrack. But I had read on another blog that it is better to not see a musical after a period of time and cast changes.

We only get to New York once or twice a year and we like to make the best decisions possible. It seems some of the most popular plays are not our "cup of tea".

Nice call on Wicked.

I hope she does, we have tickets for it already.

I believe you have missed your calling.

Maybe I should have said "that's wicked".
