Will be in New York in March with my family. Oldest daughter would like to see Rent. With cast member changes , is it still a good choice? If not, does anyone have any other good choices. This was placed in another section of Broadway World.com by error. Sorry.

I think you should before it's gone, even if the cast isn't fantastic.

Daugter is 20 years old. Spring awakening for some reason did not interest her. Little Mermaids not on her list either. She loves the movie Rent and the soundtrack She is only familiar with the actors in the movie. .She liked Avenue Q, Grey Gardens, Curtains, Drowsy Chaperone, Pillowman. Did not like Lion King and the Phantom as well. Was also trying to find a play that is on a Monday night. Rent also filled that bill.

Thanks for help.

Well if you are going to be near or in a city for the RENT 2009 tour, she will get to see Adam and Anthony recreate their roles. But, if she hasn't seen it on Broadway, I would say go for it. I have yet to see it on Broadway and hope to t his spring. Just to say I did and in that theater. It seems the theater itself is a part of the show. I see she likes plays, August: Osage County is very good if you have another night to see a show other than Monday. Also, Fuerzabruta, off Broadway, is fun.

The cast that is doing Rent now is great, in my opinion. I don't know how I feel about the Rodger, but Maureen is done really well among other characters. Spring Awakening is really incredible, but I can understand why that wouldn't appeal to a 20 year old, since it deals with adolescence. I wouldn't reccomend Little Mermaid. Avenue Q is a great show too. I would see Rent again.

Don't see Mermaid. It is quite possibly the worst show I've ever seen. It's awful. I hated every minute of it. From the awful costumes to the dumb new songs they added. A waste of time and money. UGH! It gets me soooo mad!

I'd see Rent again. The cast is good right now. But if you're trying to find something for Monday night, correct me if Im wrong, but Avenue Q fits the bill too.

Hope you guys enjoy whatever you decide to seere: Rent

Definitely see RENT if you can.
Also, it seems that she might like Wicked.

She liked Avenue Q, Grey Gardens, Curtains, Drowsy Chaperone, Pillowman.

Your daughter has good taste!

I do NOT think she would like WICKED.

See RENT. It's worth seeing on Broadway.

A Monday night show to check out would be GYPSY.

Nice call on Wicked.

I hope she does, we have tickets for it already.

I believe you have missed your calling.

Maybe I should have said "that's wicked".

look, the cast could definitely be better
but its still 110% worth seeing, its a fabulous show, incredible music, wonderful story, the WHOLE cast isn't bad and not to mention, theres almost always a good chance that there will be an understudy (pray for caren or karmine Mimi)

its also a matter of opinion, i personally hate tamyra's mimi but people love it, and besides if you've never seen the show before some of the little things that bother regulars will have no impact at all.

so basically, yes! go see it.

- i would also reccomend in the heights -

Despite the fact that the cast that is there ( well some of them. There has been some chances since I last saw it) look as if they would rather be in another show. I would still say yes and go.

The show is a Broadway staple and it is a sad thing that it is closing. I would defenatly go see it before it closes. Most of the other shows that you talked about or expressed interest in seeing will be open passed this June. Rent, however will not.

See it. The cast is very good, and you won't regret it.

Only plays on Monday nights that we haven't seen are Chicago, Cry Baby ,Gypsy, and Rent. This is the only night we have open. As I said she loves the movie Rent and the soundtrack. But I had read on another blog that it is better to not see a musical after a period of time and cast changes.

We only get to New York once or twice a year and we like to make the best decisions possible. It seems some of the most popular plays are not our "cup of tea".

Just found out that Rent will be near our hometown in a tour date. I still feel from what everyone has said Rent is best choice but would Broadway version be better or would we be better to see another play in NY and see Rent locally? My wife had seen Cats in NY and saw it locally. Said Broadway version much better.

Have enjoyed comments. Thanks!

i would honestly see it on broadway before it closes. the tour will still be around after but this is closing in June. For something so monumental I think it would be really nice to go to the place its been running for 12 years.

Look, the cast is not perfect as we've established but it certainly will not be BAD. In fact it will probably be really good especially if your daughter has only seen the movie (just make sure she doesnt try to compare it when she sees it, watch the show as if it is something unrelated to anything she's seen before and it will be much, much, better I promise.)

I would strongly reccomend that you go and not worry so much about the cast.

As someone who has seen Rent many times, here is my opinion. I think you should go to the Broadway production.

If your daughter enjoys the Broadway production, and the 2009 Equity tour is near by see that, too. Go for the actors, if you have an opportunity to see Adam and Anthony (original cast members), you shouldn't pass it up.

If you are debating about the current non-equity tour and the Broadway show, both have their downfalls. Neither is an ideal cast, but there are some very strong players in the non-equity show. Heniz Winckler (the South African idol) is Roger and Anwar Robinson (from American Idol) are both in the cast, so if your daughter enjoys either of these singers this might weigh in on the decision.

However, Broadway is going to have a special feeling since it is closing soon. Even if it isn't the ideal cast, it's a special experience to see the show at the Nederlander.

So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?

I agree. Both aren't ideal. But, I would go with seeing the show on Broadway then on the tour. Both do have their flaws that is for sure. But, seeing the show at the Nederlander has a special feeling to it. I have heard the tour is spotty at best and depending on if it is good is something that is hit or miss. I would go with the show on Broadway rather then the tour. As it has been said. They aren't stopping the tour anytime soon. They are going to stop the Broadway version of the show in June. I would go with that.

Just my two cents.,

Count me as one who also agrees that this is best seen at the Nederlander. My friend and I saw the non-equity tour last year. It was good, but something seemed to be missing to me (for one thing, the theater was much too big). I can't wait to see it on Broadway again on our next trip. My friend has never seen it there, so we are both really stoked about it!

Does it matter where you sit in this theater? Mezzanine vs. Orchestra?

Is it worth a chance on TKTS?

honestly anywhere you sit will be good, it's a small theater. I personally prefer orchastra as close to the stage as possible (lotto seats are the best) If you do decide to lotto and lose they always have good deals at the theater, i don't think rent is even on tkts but i could be very wrong.

Front mezz is also pretty good, I personally prefer to be close to the stage but from front mezz you'll get a good view of life support etc.

I believe RENT is usually on TKTS. Especially when it was doing 50% attendance and they wanted to sell as many tickets as possible.

I think lottery seats are fantastic but I think the first 10 rows of Orchestra are great. It's better to get front mezz then rear orchestra and center mezz is better than partial view orchestra(at least in my opinion for a first time viewer).
