Becky Nurse of Salem Nov 11

I saw first preview on Tuesday. I’m pretty much in the middle on it. Deidre O’Connell is making lots of bold choices but her performance was so quiet and intimate at moments it almost felt like she was acting for a camera rather than on a stage. The audience collectively had major difficulty understanding her. That said, her Becky is sad and broken and lovely.
the play itself is very interesting. I ‘d highly recommend reading the Lincoln Center show book/brochur

I attended the live capture and while the moments designed to garner an emotional response certainly did, I found myself watching other moments, be them joyful, dangerous, funny etc. and my eyes tearing and a lump growing in my throat as I thought to myself that this show reaffirms why I love theatre so

REVIVE THE NORMAL HEART May 28

This whole thing about not touching a text because the last production was “definitive” or “near perfection” is obnoxious. When artists set off to revive a show, they’re not thinking “how best can I top that last production in elements XY&Z.” It’s to tell the story in a new, exciting and (hopefully) well received way. Theatre would be in a precarious predicament if creatives all had that “let’s not touch this material because “ mentality.

REVIVE THE NORMAL HEART May 27

Honestly we already had reason enough due to the Covid catastrophe. But now with the passing of LK, I cant think of a more opportune time to bring back this masterpiece (even though the last revival was just under a decade ago). Theyd need some names to sell tickets, but theres a lot of great options. Oscar Isaac as Ned? Metcalf, Laura Dern, Glenn Close, Frances McDormand as Dr Emma? Here for it

Did anyone have tickets for a show through NYTW? They mentioned nothing in their emails about refunding peoples tickets for Endlings or Sanctuary City. I’ve emailed them twice and have heard nothing back

Good. Stage door culture has been toxic for awhile now. If you really need to be fulfilled with a signature, send your playbill to the theatre/stage management. Leave actors alone
