the hope is to get Lex Luthor to be able to make an appearance in the show and update from it's staid 60s vibe - DTC is working closely with DC COmics to secure the rights to the character

Why does Liza do the left arm up, fingers spread, head back as her signature pose? I'm not saying I dont like it, just curious as to where it started and why thats her go-to pose?

better on vinyl? Apr 8
2009, 05:39:55 PM
i recently got a turntable (it records LPs onto CDs!!!) and am wondering, for those days when i'm feeling "blue" and want to listen to my records - which shows would be better to listen to on vinyl (with the pops and hisses) as opposed to CD. i already have the original concept of "Chess", "Evita", and "JCS" - all of which are great. any additional suggestions?

i totally disagree BobbyBubby - i despise Light in the Piazza, but i love Passion - they are two totally different animals; one tries too hard to be different (Piazza) and the other is dark and seductive in it's musicality

Jesus Christ Superstar - the best recording??? Apr 7
2009, 04:55:37 PM
i was surprised when i went into my cd library yesterday and found that i had no copies of "Jesus Christ Superstar" - i have a live version of the 2001 revival on my itunes and the JCS:Ressurection that the Indigo Girls did, but that's it. so i am determined to get a cd of JCS before easter. but there are SO MANY, which is the best? i was thinking about picking up the original concept album on LP at Half-Price Books, but what CD version would be a good accompaniment to the record?

isn't it interesting though that theatre pulls from all these different sources (film, books, dance, song catalogs) but TV remains a fairly untapped resource (thank god!) i assume its just because the scope of a tv show is fairly limited (1/2 hour or an hour to solve a conflict) where as the other medium have a broader scope and longer conflict resolution. do you think that in the next 20 years we will see an explosion of tv on broadway? will there be "desperate housewives: th

has a TV show ever been turned into a Broadway show (musical or play)? The Golden Girls perhaps.... Apr 5

i was just thinking about this - movies and Broadway have a symbiotic relationship, as do books and Broadway - but what about TV? i know "Odd Couple" was turned into a TV series, but has a TV show ever given birth to a Broadway venture? aside from the off-broadway parodies of "Brady Bunch" and "Facts of Life". i was thinking that "The Golden Girls" would make a really good musical - not so much in the tongue-in-cheek way as the off-broadway shows - but an old-fashioned

I was just thinking of what Matthew Bourne did with "Carmen" when he created "The Car Man". I still love the show with it's 19th century setting, but just something I was a-thinking.

Sondheim's "Passion" - could it be updated? Apr 1
2009, 12:59:27 PM
I love this score and show, but was wondering if the time period could be updated to WWII? I dont think it would really detract, but it might give it a more modern dimension that might be easier for an audience to grasp. Thoughts?

Audra's understudy for "Marie Christine", Sherry Boone, played Eliza in a really brilliant local production of "My Fair Lady" a couple of seasons ago at the Dallas Theater Center. Instead of a full orchestra i t was only 2 pianos, and instead of a full cast it was only 10 actors. BRILLIANT!

re: what movie musical should spielberg direct? Mar 27

GOOD IDEA! Part of it speaks to his Jewish-American heritage. Oh, now I'm excited - I think you've hit the nail on the head. I'd love to see how Spielberg's eye would tackle "Crime of the Century", "Baseball", and the title song. Maybe Kate Chapshaw as Mother?

what movie musical should spielberg direct? Mar 26
2009, 11:58:30 PM
So I am watching "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and the opening sequence (Kate Chapshaw singing "Anything Goes" in Mandarin in a nightclub) got me thinking that maybe Spielberg should tackle a movie musical next. The cinematography was very Busby Berkley-esque (fitting with the 30s time period). What movie musical should he try? I was thinking "Nine", but that's already been tackled (hopefully well). Should be something with intelligence and a good sense of mu
