re: Clumsy follows the rainbow to Finian's Rainbow: 10.23.09E. Oct 27 2009, 03:23:42 PM
Actually, I'm not a huge Cheyenne fan myself, but I thought he did a very good job in Finian's (certainly better than in Xanadu, and I know I might get lynched for that...) I've seen people complain about his folksy aw-shucks-style acting, but it completely works for Woody, who is a folksy aw-shucks kind of character. That said, he was completely overshadowed by Baldwin and Fitzgerald.

This was a pretty disappointing episode. My suspension of disbelief is more willing than a Catholic school girl on prom night, but some of the things they wanted us to swallow were just too much. Puck and Rachel? REALLY? Sue and anyone? REALLY?!?!? Now, there were some good moments. The swing number was fun to watch. (Though again, Sue and Will dancing threw me for a loop). And Puck's Sweet Caroline was nice, and good to see him taking a lead. And Emma's I Could Have Danced All

re: Favorite or Most Emotional Finale Experiences Oct 21 2009, 01:53:35 PM
Okay, full disclosure first. I'm a soft touch. I cry at Hallmark commercials. Happy, sad, moved, stunned, all induce tears. It can be embarrassing sometimes... So having said that, here are some of mine: [title of show]: Maybe not so much the Finale itself, but the looks on their faces at the end was incredible. re: My thoughts on FINIAN'S RAINBOW Oct 19 2009, 03:40:52 PM
I was at the performance last Sat afternoon (so I guess I was there with you, Gimmick) And it was so great. One of my favorite scores played by a full orchestra, done by an amazing cast. As for the book, if you want to see Hamlet, it's on the next block. Is it a bit unrealistic? Yes. Is it a bit silly? Yes. For goodness sakes, one of the major characters is a leprechaun! How realistic or serious are we supposed to take it?!?! Turn your mind off for a while, and just enjoy. N

"Lahti will be great but I'm not seeing it with the rest. Smits and Potts both bore me. Potts is a little long in the tooth don't you think?" Oh, having just checked the ages on imdb, Potts is two years younger than Lahti...but I do have to wonder on all the ages...Smits is the youngest (of the three US actors), and he's 54...

Hair and makeup can do wonders...yes, they do seem to be going a little older with the cast though, which does seem odd. And I asked the question about Jeff Daniels earlier, but for that matter, going through their imdb profiles, I don't see Marcia Gay Harden or Hope Davis being that huge of a draw either. Maybe once someone went in to see Gandolfini they said, "Oh, yeah, I remember him/her." But from what I see of their recent work, I just can't see anyone saying, "Hope Davis? I lov

Oh, I can't disagree that it likely won't sell as well as it did with the original cast (though one can hope). I just think that that is a shame if the new actors give similiar-caliber performances (which, of course, remains to be seen.) No, the Dexter appearance wouldn't make him well-known. That would be his turns on NYPD Blue and West Wing. Dexter just brought him back into people's minds - ergo, not forgotten. But yes, he certainly isn't as well-known as Gandolfini. But

Personally, I'm of the opinion that if you have to have big name non-theater stars in the show to keep it open, maybe it doesn't belong on Broadway in the first place. I know that the original cast gave amazing performances, and that's great since we've had so many that have been less spectacular. But if the new cast can give as good performances, maybe it will do well. And I don't know Lahti, and I'll even give you Potts, though I love her. But Smits just did a very well-rec

Okay, Annie Potts and Jimmy Smits...I may just have to see this after all...no idea if they will be right for these parts, having not seen the show, but have loved their work that I've seen...particularly Potts...

re: What Play to See? Oct 15 2009, 03:09:49 PM
I'm seeing Brighton Beach Memoirs this weekend, myself. Heard nice things, and it is a great script. Have also heard good things about The Royal Family, which has a killer cast. And both are probably easier to get tickets to than Carnage or Rain...

Okay, maybe the wrong person to answer this, so someone correct me if I'm wrong. But I don't see why you couldn't schedule an ultra-sound whenever you want one, assuming the doctor and the equipment are available. As they showed, ultrasounds are often done in the doctor's office now, and are fairly common these days. As for the pretending that she had a miscarriage, my thinking is that Terri believes that having a baby will keep Will with her and save her marriage. Having a miscarria

re: Bye Bye Birdie Reviews Oct 15 2009, 01:22:19 PM
Okay, I reread my last post, and it seems a little harsh. If you don't like a show, you don't like a show. That happens, not everyone is going to like everything. (Personally, I thought Ragtime was long and boring...and there are huge numbers of people that disagree with me) But, as was stated before, BBB is one of the most performed shows in the country. It is doubtful that it would have gotten to that point if it was universally accepted to be a bad show. You don't like any production of

"Go see it, Best12, and then come back and we'll talk." We have seen it. Many times. And sorry, yes, it still works, and always has. Just by saying the quoted line, you've proven his point. If the show didn't work, it wouldn't work anywhere. And it does. If you have to see a specific production that doesn't work, it is more likely the production, not the show that is the problem. Here's a better idea. Why don't you go see more than just a production that is, by just abou

Well, this one definitely came after last week's, since the whole Sue as co-director happened at the end of the last one. But yeah, I do kinda think that some seem out of order...

I accept Will's naivite to the point of absurdity in the same way I accept that Sue sends the Cheeerio's dry-cleaning to Europe or that Finn doesn't know his right from his left. It's just the way it is, and when he finally does wise up (and he will...probably around the end of the season), it's going to be some major fireworks, which I look forward to seeing...Will just isn't made for deception, so he doesn't understand those who are...
