HAIR LIVE! To Air On NBC Spring 2019
 May 26 2018, 07:30:59 PM
I kind of get the choice, actually. I mean, yeah, it’s going to be Bowdlerized, but it’s a great opportunity to cast huge pop stars of the moment to do one song and pull in ratings (I’m not really familiar with the show, I just know what’s described here, it’s reputaion, and the Actor’s Fund Concert from a decade ago).

Btw, while I’m at it, I’ll put a bet in for Demi Lovato singing Hippie Life, if it’s included.

I think that’s a different situation. In some schools, there may not be any Latinix students, let alone those with singing, acting, or dancing ability to do the part. I doubt any professional theater, especially those based out of NYC or London, can claim this problem. (Those schools prob

Linnamon Role Appreciation Thread - :p

If you want to become a true theater fan (which it is very clear you do, but just as clear that you really are not), my advice would be to look up and watch all of the musicals that inspired Mr. Miranda (because you can do that very easily now) and if you come back with an appreciation for Sondheim and Rodgers & Hammerstein, then maybe you’ll be taken seriously (and you should probably start with West Side Story because it’s one of the definitive Broadway shows and it’s

Like, they're clearly not successful because otherwise I would know who they are the way I know Lin, Hamilton, or DEH, Ben Platt. I have never heard anyone talking about them meanwhile other shows like Be More Chill are way more popular and not getting this kind of attention."

She’s a working actress. She’s not actually a big name or a ticket draw so she can’t really be choosy when it comes to roles. She may have integrity, but she also needs pay bills.

To everyone saying that this is like people of color getting to play white roles - you’re just fundamentally wrong. The way I feel about race in casting (and I know others who agree with me in this) is that if the show or specific character doesn’t have specific themes or story arcs about race, then it can be cast any which way the directors choose. For example, Audra McDonald as Carrie in Carousel. While we all know that a black woman wouldn’t get married to a white man wit

Name Change for Gypsy Robe Ceremony
 Apr 18 2018, 04:13:32 PM

“What next? Are they going to change the name of Gypsy of the year? Or change the name of the musical gypsy?”

The Gypsy Robe ceremony is for the ensemble member who has moved around the most. The reason it’s called that is because of stereotypes about the Romani people. The musical Gypsy is different. Gypsy Rose Lee was a real person and the show is called that because it’s her name. Those are fundamentally different situations. In about fifty years, people

strong female roles

I wouldn't count Mrs. Meers because, while she is independent and unique, she's completely crazy. Not exactly a feminist role model. Not to mention the racism surrounding her plot line in the musical.

I would definitely count Eva Peron in Evita. By the way, are you asking this for any specific reason? Are you tired of the way some plays/musicals are being written, or are you doing some research for some nebulous project, or something completely different than anything
