What Broadway musicals have you seen in a foreign language? Sep 1 2025, 10:32:37 PM
Les Miserables in French in Montreal at Theatre St-Denis. Caught a second performance of the same production - but in English - the same week at the St-Denis.

Yes, it’s a solid recording of Lansbury. She is listed first in the Playbill profiles.

Disney will launch North American tour of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST in 2025 Jul 9 2025, 11:38:49 PM
In Chicago, the first night, near-capacity audience on Wednesday, July 9 shared extended ovations after GASTON and BE OUR GUEST.
I got goosebumps listening to the brass arrangement beneath the Act One closer IF I CAN’T LOVE HER.
The show effectively uses LED, with scenes of the village, the countryside, the castle, and wolf attacks, but I wanted more oomph in the title song ballroom scene.
The stagewide LED screens are used both upstage and downstage.

42 Balloons Jun 30 2025, 12:27:33 PM
This was a slog. Dull choreography, redundant shadows on the back wall, lackluster projections.
A great idea with weak execution.

I support all theatre, but will buy tickets that are to the left of the aisle instead of the right.

BOOP, BOOP, FIZZ Jan 21 2025, 09:09:19 AM
At the Chicago tryout, my three least favorite moments were
(1) the hard-to-decipher-lyrics of Angelica Hale's solo
(2) the uninspiring Act 2 dance between Stephen DeRosa and Faith Prince.
(3) the too-casual arrival of the Ensemble in the finale in their colorful top hats and tails
All of these bits are fixable.

50th Anniversary Revival of A CHORUS LINE still on track for 202 Jan 6 2025, 08:06:38 PM
A great show - and I’ve never, ever seen a bad production.
Starlight Musicals - Indianapolis
Loyola University Chicago - student production
Porchlight Theatre - Chicago
The most recent Drury Lane production in the Chicago burbs was magical, even with its intermission.

Kokandy's Into the Woods in Chicago Nov 4 2024, 08:58:38 PM
It’s a great, shoestring production. Wonderful pitch and pure voices. It’s in the Chopin basement, so EVERYONE will miss something due to the 6 thick pesky poles that hold up the ceiling.
The two grand pianos become a character in the show, and the audience is treated to a beautiful coda by the pianists after the bows.
Upstairs, in a different show, is a parody that mixes the Scooby Doo gang with the Golden Girls.

DEATH BECOMES HER Previews Oct 27 2024, 12:52:23 AM
After seeing the show in Chicago a few times, it was a treat to see the numerous changes made to the show Saturday night.
There’s no way I can recall every change and in order.
1. Stepan’s harp was returned. It was only used in Chicago in the mansion set during the first days of tryouts. The harp has resurfaced in Madeline’s NY apartment.
2. In addition to Stepan’s new, brief exit number in Act 2, JOSH LAMON’s Elvis

The East West Players of LA had a production of PIPPIN during their 2007-2008 season.
But it sounds like there was a mislabeled bootleg.

What happens to the legacy of old shows? Oct 12 2024, 10:47:03 AM
Somewhat related: I recall the era in the NYT theatre listings when the newspaper gave the reader a quick idea of how shows were selling, with a brief description after the show title: - capacity
- near capacity
- available
