I've seen "Mary Poppins" twice. The first time we were in the middle of the orchestra section, maybe row R or something, and it was a magical experience. The second time, I got tickets for the third row, and I found that being that close was actually NOT as good. While it was exciting to be so close to the actors, I could see the seams on the statue costumes, and the scenery was more clearly "scenery" -- it took away from the illusion somewhat. I saw Donny Osmond in "Beauty and the Beast" and he had to leave mid-show due to vocal strain or something. They made the announcement at the beginning of Act 2, and there were loud audible groans from the audience, many of whom I'm sure traveled great distances to see him. That's what happens with stunt casting. WeeThomas2, I loved your "Heaven on Earth" comment! LOL!

I think it would make more sense to set it in modern times and have Annie be a girl in a bad foster home. Miss Hannigan could be someone who signed up as a foster mother for the monthly stipend, but doesn't treat the kids well. And then they could use rap music and everything else they want. I think updating the plot makes more sense than trying to shoehorn rap music and a black Annie into the original 1933 plotline.

I'm most looking forward to "Matilda"! Why isn't that one on the list?
