ALNM cast having problems with Elaine Stritch? Dec 2 2010, 06:18:20 PM
When I saw ALNM I was sitting between President Obama and the Pope. It was amazing for me. Who else can honestly say that. Elaine was perfect that night. The cast bowed to her at the curtain call the Bernadette Peters was sobbing "I'm not worthy" and "You should be playing Desiree and I should be selling concessions" It was magical night. Better than anybody else's. Oh yeah, Sondheim gave me a neck rub during intermission.

Hello, Dolly! Revival Dec 2 2010, 06:11:22 PM
Streisand was the perfect age for Dolly! All the other ladies playing the role have been old old old unglamorous has-beens. Barbra's Dolly was all about glamour and star quality. All the other creatures playing Dolly are about being a crazy widow hunting a rich husband. There hasn't been a truly satisfying production of Hello, Dolly since the movie because no one has been able to top it. Just like the movie version of Mame. No one has been better than Lucy.

What would you say to a Hello Dolly revival?? Aug 9 2010, 09:25:15 PM
I would say, "Don't bother, you'll never top the exquisite film version with Barbra" HELLO, DOLLY the movie is one of great films of all time.

I'm not obsessed with TheatreDiva90016 Aug 9 2010, 10:03:55 AM
I'm not obsessed with TheatreDiva90016, not at all. I don't even read TheatreDiva90016" posts, why should I? I don't even know who TheatreDiva90016 is. I don't think about TheatreDiva90016, write about TheatreDiva90016, respond to TheatreDiva90016. I don't eve know why I'm writing this about TheatreDiva90016. TheatreDiva90016 is obsessed with my being obsessed with TheatreDiva90016- which I'm not because I'm not obsessed with what TheatreDiva90016 writes, what TheatreDiva90016 thinks, what T

Barbra is the one and only DOLLY Aug 6 2010, 08:16:42 PM
That is how great a star Barbra is: she was 26 and made you think she was 36 plus.. without any age make-up.. just brilliant. She wasn't some broad cartoon like Carol Channing. Barbra was a glamorous, sexy STAR! Everything she did on the screen forces you to pay attention to her. You even forget the story you are so mesmerized by her talent. She even out did Mae West! Mae West was never as good a Mae West as Barbra was as Mae West as Dolly! She should have one anoth

Mendes-Peters GYPSY Aug 6 2010, 07:40:53 PM
Bette Midler was awesome in the TV version. Only I wish she had played it a little BIGGER. The stupid director probably forced her to underplay the whole thing. Too bad Lucy is six feet under, she would have wiped out the memory of Lansbury in GYSPY, just like she did in the stupendous movie verison of MAME.

Mendes-Peters GYPSY Aug 6 2010, 07:33:53 PM
Tyne Daly is so ugly too. She didn't act like a STAR.. she just acted like the character. BORING AND WRONG.

Mendes-Peters GYPSY Aug 6 2010, 07:28:04 PM
Bernadette was the best Rose ever. Period. Beautiful and sexy. Sadly she was a lot better at the beginning of the run than at the end. At the end of run she was playing some sort of mean, ambitious lady. Tyne Daly was the worst: nothing glamorous, nothing campy, no pandering to my need to worship. She didn't pander to ANY gay cult so she was terrible. She was acting like she was in some sort of play instead of a glitzy fluffy Diva worship musical. Terrible.

Barbra is the one and only DOLLY Aug 6 2010, 07:10:33 PM
There is no doubt the Barbra proved the role should only be played by a women in her 20s. No one before or since has been as successful in the role. Can Carol Channing sing better than Barbra? No. So case closed.

Jennifer Aniston...FUNNY GIRL Aug 6 2010, 04:44:57 PM
I asked: Why aren't there any HELLO, DOLLY pictures? Its Barbra's best movie, best known movie and best performance. Harper's Bazaar has always hated Barbra that is why they used Aniston.. with her so-called "perfect" nose. They are making a dig at the real "perfection" that is Barbra.
