So much potential and such a frustrating and annoying outcome. Milnes himself, the dramatic re-creations…ugh. And I just got the sense that they interviewed a lot of people who were Steve’s social friends but not actually Steve’s best friends, most of whom have sadly died. The better episodes were the ones where they interviewed people who were close with Steve for decades (Maltby, Shires, Lapine, Adam Guettel, Jamie Bernstein). And so oddly UK oriented.

Probably a bad idea, but I wonder if marketing it as “ for people who hated Cats” (not in those words) could have moved the needle. As someone who hated Cats I had to be cajoled into seeing it, and I thought it was a relevation, and that has been the case in my circle of friends. But perhaps my circle is too niche.

Yeah. I’m an LCT member and they are holding so many premium seats back the only seats available were the terrible seats all the way to the left and right. I spoke to LCT about it as it seems this dynamic pricing model has become the norm there especially for productions that they anticipate will sell well. I enjoyed this piece. Sunday is one of my favorite Sondheim songs. It and Our Time are the two Sondheim songs that give me goose bumps every time I hear them.

It was a weird year for best actress in a musical. Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner were jointly nominated for playing two different characters, albeit conjoined twins.

Does anyone have additional information about the rumored 42nd Street. IIRC there were 60 dancers in the original production and half that in the revival. Given today’s economics it’s hard to imagine half as many of that. Maybe it will surprise me, but a 42nd Street with a dozen dancers feels sad.

I don’t think Wayne wants much to do with ACL and I suppose that other original cast members may not live in the New York area.
