Oh, wow, really - if you don't have the OBC of Merrily, there's no other option. I would buy the York/Off-Broadway cast and save Leicester for last. The Leicester recording just bothers me... a lot. And... Chita, sure. But, there are some truly lovely things about the Vanessa Williams recording.

Was wondering if someone could help clarify something for me... I'm curious about The Playhouse Theatre, which was ultimately renamed the Jack Lawrence Theatre... and is now an apartment building on W. 48th Street. I know that it was technically a Broadway house - for the original production of QUILTERS among other things... does anyone know how many seats it had? So, I haven't seen the show yet... but, I just checked out the website... And what a brilliant plan of attack. Instead of staying on one song, they hit you with everything they've got. And boy do they have a lot. I mean, jeez, these songs take me back to a great place. Giving away 50% of one's profits, and offering *every* member of the community a chance to see a show, while staying comfortable within their own budget, is deemed "gross behavior"? I'm not following...

Oh, I would say buy the original Broadway cast recording of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG. Be sure to get the original cast first, though, and not either of the revival recordings... The cover has a Hirschfeld of the show, with Sondheim's picture in the center of it. But, there's really not a bad place to start - it all depends on what you respond to. I would strongly suggest starting with the original cast recordings, before you get revival casts, however.
